Mrs Twinfan is off to hospital for an op tomorrow :0(
« on: July 12, 2010, 11:37:26 AM »
OK, I'll admit it - I'm getting slightly nervous now.  Mrs Twinfan is heading into hospital later today for an operation tomorrow morning.  It's a general anaesthetic job, and she'll be under for around 45 mins.  Neither of us has had an operation before, or even an overnight hospital stay.

I think it may be hard to concentrate at work tomorrow.  Fingers crossed all goes well!

Hope it goes well Dave. I've been where you are and the wait for the operation was worse than the actual event - in hindsight I probably spent too long thinking about what could go wrong rather than reassuring myself that operations under general anaesthetic are done routinely nowadays with very, very, very few problems.

All the best.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Hope all goes well for the Mrs, Dave.

I've had two operations under General Anaesthetic, and while I can't say either was a particularly good experience (the second especially because they also applied a nerve-block, but failed to actually block the correct nerves! When I woke, I had a screaming agony in my wrist but couldn't move the rest of my arm or hand!), each was in its own right, just fine.

While there is a risk with all operations, it's worth remembering that, like plane flights, the absolute vast majority of a very large number goes on exactly as planned with no problems.

Less time worrying, more time looking for appropriate Get Well Soon cards, flowers, grapes (and chocolate!). :)

Cheers guys, I'm sure it'll go fine but the doubts always creep in a bit don't they?

Chocolate is no good for the wife, Roo, as it gives her migraines!  A bottle of white wine should do the trick though  ;)

I've had quite a few operations for various things, and loads of overnight stays in hospitals, and aside from the irritating "You can't eat after 7pm the night before" stuff I've never had any negative experiences. And when I was a wee guy, I got presents when I got out too! It was ace!

She'll be fine, I'm sure.

Dave,

After being put under a fair few times over the past 22 years, I'm sure Mrs Dave will be fine! All the best!!

Last time I had an op they put a pain killer up my arse when I was under. I was also away with the faeries for quite a while when I came to. Terrible... ;)

Best wishes to the wifelet Dave.

I've never had an Op' either Dave but that overnight stay I had last year from that accident I had left me very impressed with hospitals. She'll be fine mate don't worry. It's natural to feel a few pangs of doubt.  :D

I've had general anaesthetic a few times, I don't think there's much risk to a young, healthy person.  It'll literally be over before she knows it. :)

It's actually quite good fun waking up - you feel like you're coming round quite quickly, but when you think about it afterwards you realise you can't really remember it properly at all.  Like a waking dream.

Chocolate and wine, then :) You get the chocolate, and if you don't eat it, I will :)

I'm sure all will go well - last time I had a general anaesthetic I started talking a load of rubbish (even more than usual) when I was coming around and was shut up by one of the nurses as it was annoying the other patients  :(

All the very best to you both from me too Dave :  I know she is in very safe hands, but of course considering the very special / irreplaceable relationship you have between you, any risk is unacceptable to contemplate - even that of stubbing her toe on the hospital bed.

I await the news at it appears. :)
