man, i think they sank even lower with this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9fbaujXsb8&NR=1

no idea why i'm posting bad iron maiden videos ;)

I always liked Holy Smoke - last gasp era (Fear Of The Dark being THE END)

I think 'Dance of Death' is a good album, and theres the odd good track on 'Brave New World' in my opinion. I guess we all have a different taste :)

I know Davey and Ben will strongly disagree here ;)

As a die hard maiden fan, I'm looking forward to the album. Videos, unless they are live, have never been maidens strong point, but the video does put the first son 'El Dorado' in context.

I'm gonna be slightly controversial and say that Dance Of Death and Brave New World are two of their best albums, IMO, of course.

I agree too, but I prefer Brave New World.  Then I found A Matter of Life and Death a bit disappointing - I think they've got into a rut with Kevin Shirley producing, just as they did with Martin Birch.

I think Dance of Death was a great album, tho sonically it's TERRIBLE.  I saw Maiden ... 6 times? for that tour.

A Matter of Life And Death is awful; it sounds like a bunch of solo albums edited together. Dreary ... boring ... lame. It was so bad that Maiden is now denying its existence wholesale. They pulled the same trick Judas Priest did -- put out a clunker album and then rely on a 'classic' tour to divert attention from it.

Everything I've heard from the new album only underscores my belief that Maiden should be put out to pasture. It's utter cr@p.

...

And El Dorado has BLATANT riff theft on it!!

Dance of Death was a great album, Paschendale and Montsegur are both superb tracks, however A Matter of Life and Death was totally different. As far as I can remember, it has the shortest writing / production time of any album, mayber barring their debut. I think you have to put in that context, yes it is different from anything that has gone before, but does have a sense of 'immediacy', that makes it more 'human'.
El Dorado does'nt have as powerful hooks as previous singles, but will no doubt make sense in the context of the album.

Best album has to be Somewhere in Time, followd by Powerslave 8)

Brave New World = good album
Dance of Death = good album, though they're repeating their own riffs like there's no tomorrow
a matter of ... = utter cr@p.

and their debut album didnt have a short writing period. you have your whole life to write your debut. on the 2nd album you can still use some of that material, the 3rd is the band killer usually and it turned out to be one of their strongest records. now, they're just shite

I quite liked some of the matter of life and death album (it had a couple of good songs on it)  ive got all maidens stuff but i don't really think they have done a good album since seventh son.

I also don't think they had done a bad album until no prayer (controversial im sure) either.  I have to say i miss Derek Riggs artwork.  It had depth and texture, i find the new computer drawn stuff a bit cheesy, they've lost that mock horror feel for a more tongue in cheek fantasy image imho. its gone from 18 to PG :?

The only maiden album that doesnt do anything at all for me is No Prayer For The Dying.  Even the two Blaze ones had good tracks, even if he couldnt deliver the vocals required for them.

The only thing I'd say for No Prayer is that Janick brought some energy back to the band.  Good though Somewhere In Time and Seventh Son are, I think they'd got a bit..... bloated.

uh, yes.  i hate most of the artwork since a real live dead one. though virtual IX and BNW are ok.. BNW is a good one actually the rest is just shite.. apart of the somewhere in time tour artwork... but that's rehashed old stuff

i actually found the dave riggs artwork a bit disturbing when i was very young.. was born in 1979, so do mean very young.. i agree that i don't think the modern covers would have had quite the same effect
