Just Started a Tele-bitsocaster
« on: July 18, 2010, 03:45:29 PM »
I have always wanted a Tele and finally thought I should get one.  Problem is no room and I don't want to sell any guitars off, even though most are rarely played.
So I had an idea, get a body off of ebay and put the neck on it from a Strat I put together many years ago.  I get a tele and the guitar count does not increase.

Attached some PICS

1: The Body. (from mjtele)
2: The guitar donating the neck
3: Stuntman Mike getting ready for a nap before he helps me.
4: Body and neck with parts I have arranged.

Pickups I am currently thinking of an aged Boss set.
Bridge is Wilkinson fully adjustable one I got from Feline.
Pickguard, mint green aged one from mjtele

Has anybody so suggestions what I should use and where to get the remainder of the bits I need:

Ferrules
Control Plate
Jack Plate
switch, pots and jack socket.

And any tips on ageing the shiny bits?

I recommend the Electrosocket jack.
Are you going to rout the neck pocket to fit the Strat heel?

Edit: Looks awesome !!!

Not rout, a little sanding and it fitted a treat, I guess the test will be when I get some strings on it.

I've bought bits from www.fake58.co.uk and they've been good value plus they offer relic versions of most things that they stock. Very cool looking guitar by the way. I really like the body colour.

That's gonna look very righteous :D

I'm gradually coming round to the big strat headstock - but for some reason it's always looked ok to me when married to a tele body.

Thanks Andrew, I have ordered from fake58.  Julian is very helpful.  They even do the jackplate.

I got the neck when I was on holiday in LA with mates in 1980.  So sort of vintage, or old at least.  It's a 3 bolt one but I plugged the original holes, and drilled 4 new ones.  It has been fine in the Strat body, just fancied a change.  Plus I have not used the Strat regularly for over 10 years.

Got a few bits over the weekend and bolted them on.

Just need pickups, knobs and switch tip now.
