I plain don't like the Toppy over trebly sound of the Burstbucker pros in my Gibson Les Paul Standard,they sound thin and lack mids.I have been looking on You Tube etc...To check out the sound of different Pick ups,It seems a toss up between Mules and Stormy Mondays.I don't want an overbright sound.I also want the bridge to be able to give some grunt.I don't want to have to roll all the treble off like I have to do with the Burstbucker Pro.I am aware of the Peter Green set.But they are unpotted.
Also,some pick ups coil split well as far as the volume balance goes but some don't ,I know generally the lower the output,the less good the split normally.I sent my Burstbuckers to Wizard but they ended up sounding really weedy when split.I used to have an Ibanez with super 58s,these split well as does the Seymour Duncan JB/Jazz combo I have in my other Les Paul.The Super 58s were really good.They came with a Roadstar RS1010 Steve Lukather.The bridge was a bit overwound.
So I am looking for a vintage sound I guess,but with versatility.I would like it to sound fat,warm and vintage accurate,especially warm.But I do want it to be able to rock on the bridge pick up if required.I hate that dry parched sound also.I'm not too fond of Billy Gibbons tone,that's what I mean by dry and parched.Peter Green,Camel,Wishbone Ash is my type of thing.
