NAD, Jubilee!

Just got this baby today, sounds awesome, even the cleans!

Its a 2554, not the silver one, but the slightly later black version. Not too heavy and a very compact package.

Cool... I love mine too and being so compact means I can still get a decent sound in smaller pubs!

What valves you got in there? Mine still has the originals I think... and yet it sounds very sweet indeed.

Ill see if I can do some clips soon, at the moment I am just happy to have an amp where I can turn the Master beyond 9 oclock without having the walls come down. The little bugger really gets fat and screams when you turn it past noon!

Sidewinder?

It says "Celestion Vintage" on the speaker, but it isn't a Vintage 30. Would that make it a sidewinder?

Sidewinder?

the 2554 is a 50w combo, its probably got a V30 in there - the 2x12 I owned had a pair of those speakers.  it sounded WAY too honky with the V30s - was much better with G12Ms.

heres a pic of a 1x12 Jube - not sure what that speaker is, but it appears to be a G12 somthing or other...

Your pic didn't work.

Here I made some more pics, still it looks different than my other Vintage30s.

It's the Vintage Lead, the precursor to the Vintage 30.  I swapped mine out for a Sidewinder - you will have to pick up a second hand one, but they are worth it.
So many pickups, so little time

What's the deal with these Sidewinders? Are they supposed to sound in any way special? Perfect for small size combos? What is their wattage rating? Are they a Greenback style or sth else?

I have a G12-65 Heritage Reissue lying around that I thought about trying...

they are very good speakers thats for sure. phil (who i'm sure will be able to comment more) has a sidewinder in a similar combo to yours. i've also played a 2x12 sidewinder cab with felines jcm800 (with diode clipping, similar tone to yours maybe) and it was a great match also.

sidewinders have 103db of sensitivity and so are very loud, they are also rated to 150w.. i think they have fiberglass coil similar to a fane(?)

anyway, they sound very good, i would use them myself, but when i got some mesa boogie theile cabs with electro voice speakers my interest in searching further speakers and cabs ended instantly. the sidewinders sound quite neutral, high powered, and with subtle british characteristics.

i don't know if they'll suit you, you see quite into the combo being more on the quiet side.?

cool amp by the way :)

Mine has a V30 in it and I quite like it to be honest, but I do have a 1912 1 x 12 with a sidewinder that I intend to run with it as well.

Have you ever considered having a choke fitted to yours? I wonder if it would make a noticeable difference ...

By the way, the guy I went to to buy this amp had actually 4 of them. One silver and 3 black.

I was also able to chose my amp among the three black ones. The one I took sounded fuller and more smooth. At home I realised it was on 16Ohm setting running into the 8Ohm speaker, which I guess is why it sounded different LOL

Never really thought about it but I like it as it is. I doubt it would fit though otherwise wouldn't Marshall have installed it originally? I've heard people say that the 2554 does have a slightly different sound to the others and that it sounds best through a 4 x 12, but I gought mine for small and cramped venues. It's my favorite Marshall without a doubt and it's nice to have as an alternative to the MK50 and Hurricane. I very nearly had a black one too, I was going to run them together as a stack ... but that would have been greedy!  I was playing mine in stereo yesterday with the hurricane and although only low volume, it was great. You could hear the difference between it and the Hurricane but it was a really fat sound, I can see why Bonamassa runs multiple amps. Also as you say it is nice to be able to turn the volume up and get power valves cooking .... and the eq section is easily the best I have used on a Marshall. The strange thing is I had one of these Silver ones 20 years ago and whilst I liked it, it did not sound as good as this one? Yours probably sounds different to mine as the later ones (after seriel number 3000+ I think) are supposed to be a fuller and fatter sounding... I just can't imagine that because this one IS full sounding.
