Have you ever considered having a choke fitted to yours? I wonder if it would make a noticeable difference ...
Never really thought about it but I like it as it is. I doubt it would fit though otherwise wouldn't Marshall have installed it originally? I've heard people say that the 2554 does have a slightly different sound to the others and that it sounds best through a 4 x 12, but I gought mine for small and cramped venues. It's my favorite Marshall without a doubt and it's nice to have as an alternative to the MK50 and Hurricane. I very nearly had a black one too, I was going to run them together as a stack ... but that would have been greedy! :lol: I was playing mine in stereo yesterday with the hurricane and although only low volume, it was great. You could hear the difference between it and the Hurricane but it was a really fat sound, I can see why Bonamassa runs multiple amps. Also as you say it is nice to be able to turn the volume up and get power valves cooking .... and the eq section is easily the best I have used on a Marshall. The strange thing is I had one of these Silver ones 20 years ago and whilst I liked it, it did not sound as good as this one? Yours probably sounds different to mine as the later ones (after seriel number 3000+ I think) are supposed to be a fuller and fatter sounding... I just can't imagine that because this one IS full sounding.
Yeah that is a cool setup indeed. I have to get used to the combo tone vs. my usual 4x12 - it's a different ballgame, but I could imagine that it's fun when that little bugger is cranked with one speaker really working.
I did play the silver one he had there and it had less bottom end than mine - could have been the speaker though. Fact is, basic characteristic was the same and I slightly preferred the tone of the black one.
I played around with 4 cable method and the M13 this morning and it was loads of fun. You know those GnR moments!
But when I plug in direct it's just a more natural tone. Pity they have only one relay bypass on the M13, and you have to go through AD/DA when using 4CM. I went and did the same setup using pedals (a wah, boost, a drive and phaser in front and a delay and volume pedal in the loop) and it had much more punch, though less versatility (and I wouldn't have that Whammy for the RATM cover).
It's a great amp and maybe one of the best grab and go packages available!
You said you use a V30 in it, is it the stock Celestion Vintage speaker or have you replaced it with a new V30?
