i still like the style of those gothic guitars... the matt black thing became a bit of a cliche for a while, but when it works it really comes off. i think the explorer is the best shape for that finish style.

I've been coming very close to swapping the Riff Raffs and MQs between the Faded SG and Explorer over the last week or so... but a couple of sessions with both have made me realise - if it ain't broke... don't fix :lol:  They're both sounding fabulous... especially through an amp I acquired a couple of weeks back.

It's quite interesting though - this gothic look - a couple months back I wouldn't have gone for this gothic one at all. Maybe wouldn't even have bothered commenting. But after stripping mine I've fallen madly in love with it, and I've been looking at a lot of Explorers online... My favourites are still "classic" natural mahogany or korina, but the matt black look has a bit of something to it :D (the ones I don't get are the bound Explorers).

After playing through "real" amps the other week, I ended up at a loose end in shops that had a Laney CUB10 to try (it was originally a toss-up between this and the AC4TV months back, I couldn't find a Laney to try though).

Anyway while playing a CUB10, I discovered that there was such a thing as a CUB12R now (15 Watts). Didn't even know it existed. The CUB10 is cute, quite Fendery, but still wants to get too loud (for my purposes). The CUB12R behaves a little like my old gigging Laney, and much better at lower volumes. I ummed and aahed, and did some communications with the missus back at home... and came away with a CUB12R.

Haven't had as much fun with a new "musical thing" for 20-30 years!

I'd have loved to relieve Feline of his HTH Amp - but I just can't justify spending that much on an amp for myself. What playing the HTH at the meet did do was get the juices flowing though... And then when I ended up facing a budget amp I'd already planned to try at some point, and on being introduced to its bigger brother for not much more... and on being offered internet prices in Charing Cross Rd... well, I just couldn't resist! :roll:

I don't think it'll do what fr33man1 probably has planned for his Explorer, but my Explorer doing "blues-rock sh1t" sounds absolutely fabulous through a CUB12

No indeed my explorer is not intended to play some blues rock though it sounds nice on my diezel einstein channels. I'm always surprised how smooth pickups can get when they are some years old. But I must admit i was always curious about how an explorer would sound with vintage vibe pickups. This guitar is the perfect cross over from an sg and a les paul for me. It has the grit n bite of the sg and the deep low end like a les paul. Some Mqueen or black dogs would slay in there.  :)


Oh and nothing gear oriented but I appreciate kind  and warm feedbacks here. On french board as soon you're opening a topic for a Ngear Day people tend to get jealous or hide it behind picky jokes on your gear. Once a guy could not resist to tell me how ugly camo covers were and how he despised the witch hat knobs on my Custom Les paul.Same for pickups, though we are on BKP boards people here always read your wishes and try their best to help you to fit the best bkp for your axe and the sound you want to achieve with. Feels nice.  :oops:

I can confirm that MQs work magnificently in an Explorer :D

And it is good here on the new gear stuff isn't it? I do know some other forums almost as friendly, but this one is particularly supportive... (the only downside is that it tends to make you more open minded... and eventually you end up buying more and more stuff!!! :lol:)
