OK done it - changed the speaker in my Vox AD30VT
« on: December 12, 2005, 10:35:10 PM »
I recently found out my father, who uses speakers in engineering, could get Celestions at trade price.  So I though I would try a G10 Vintage in my Vox ADVT30.

First impression - a real difference - a definate change, and certainly for the better - the notes have more definition and the 'attenuator' (I doubt it is actually an attenuator) actually seems to pump out good stuff at lower volumes, unlike being a mud contol (which it was before).

Even with 3 watts setting from the 'attenuator' its louder and clearer.

On the bad side - the FX seem to have been tuned to the original speaker and now i can tell they are cr@ppy digital effects.

The sound of the guitar is now different - more defined but different: so I will have to get used to it again.

Cant wait till the speaker wears in - it sounds tight at the moment, so I hope it opens up over the next couple of weeks.

Slight ghost rattle - I think I didn't screw the speaker in tight enough - i'll see if it corrects itself.

What was the original speaker?
Mother's Milk.  Mullard.  Cornford.  Mmmmm....

Dunno - a made in Korea no name - looking at it it is not a Celestion design.

Just to add - the G10 Vintage has settled in a bit more now and it is a real improvement - better break up, smoother OD, more clarity.  The works.  Its a bit like changing from stock to BKPs in effect.

Now to fix my Sessionette!

Sounds great.

I've been wanting to change out the speaker in my fender hot rod deluxe.  The one in there really is not capable of the 40 watts.  I guess fender thought if you go into a store and pump the amp up to 3 and is is loud as hell it must be even louder @ 6.  Not the case as I found....lol
I have not changed the speaker yet because if the bass associated with the hot rod deluxe.  I am guessing I will have tube issues with all the new vibrations.  I need to figure out how to fix that and then buy the speaker.
