purchase suggestion Ibanez prestige

Hi All,
Ive been lurking these forums for some time now looking at what I should but while saving up a few bucks.
Its now time for a purchase.
I have a basswood Ibanez rg2550e-gk
From reading it seems most people suggest the C- War Pig or the Miracle Man
I play mostly metal with some classic rock as well my band is a light metal band with a dark tone.
Any suggestions? I can post some clips of the band and my current tone if anyone wants to hear.
As a guitar player I guess im just looking for that ultimate tone =) (if there is such thing)

im looking for something with a very meaty bottom end with smooth hi's right now my hi's are very fizzy (although i eq'd most of the fizz out of the recording)  im not going active because i still want a bit of warmth to my tone

again any suggestions would be great

I think your after a AlNiCO Warpig or possibly a miracle man the warpig is smoother but the miracle man cuts better but i would say it was fuzzy.

I'd defo say Alnico Warpig as well after listening to your tunes.  If you were playing faster, more thrashy metal, then I'd say ceramic WP or Miracle Man.

Even a Painkiller would sound good in that context, but its not as dark as the Warpigs - great mids on the PK though.  Only ever heard them in a Les Paul and they were Priest-tone all the way.

you WANT an alnico warpig, definitely and undoubtably.
ceramic would be too fizzy with your sound, but the alnico one is YOUR pickup! :)

looks like ill be getting myself a new warpig =)
tuned to drop c the warpig would be better then the MM? i was about to pull the trigger on the MM the other night till i read a bit more about the warpig.

I am following this thread with interest. Does anyone have any experience with either the Holy Diver or Emerald in Basswood?

I have experienced a pair of VHII's in basswood and they come sound like a cross between a single coil and a humbucker. With the Emerald apparently sounding like a more powerfull & thicker VHII that sounds interesting perhaps.

I am very interested in the idea of a Holy Diver in an RG style basswood guitar, I am thinking it would cover great cleans, heavy melodic and beyond. Failing those two ideas a Painkiller would be my first choice providing it has enough bottom end in basswood

I only have experience of a MM in a basswood RG, but I must confess I didn't listen to your music posted above, so I can't really comment on how appropriate it would be for that. I liked the articulate, punchy nature of it, and I managed to get mine sounding quite raw and strangely not too compressed-sounding. I loved the MM in there (but now it's made its way into my custom baritone and sounds MONSTROUS! :D). I do have a black dog now in the ibanez basswood RG, but I haven't even tested to see if it works (that guitar is very much a gig backup - my custom is the main guitar, and I never play any other).

In short, MM + basswood does work really well, but I'm not convinced it's necessarily in your ballpark given what people have said who listened to your stuff. If you're less on the tight-articulate-crunch and more on the doom/grind/dark/powaahhh side, then an AlNiCo pickup would probably suit better. Ask Tim! :)
