NWVD
« on: August 15, 2010, 05:51:14 PM »
I'm absolutely stoked by this guitar! As you can see, its a firebird 1, but with a couple of improvements - pigtail bridge, silky ebony board, Wez profiled neck and a steinberger tuners. The pickup is a Lollar and its crunchy, clear and powerful. I love Wez's necks, and this is really addictive to play - I am on the train home playing it now. The tone pot is important on firebirds, and Wez has used a NOS capacitor which I'm quite impressed with. The wood working is naturally top notch, lightweight mahogany and it sustains for biblical lengths of time, even unplugged.

I already know its a beauty, one of the best guitars I've played, let alone owned. Its exactly what I wanted. Thanks again mate!

That does look very nice indeed.

Wow! Looks great, think I prefer 2 pickup or 3 pickup look on firebirds though.
Doesn't an Ebony board make it a little sharp?

I've played a couple of Firebirds and they're always bright. Its hard to say if the ebony makes it brighter - there's good bits on the guitars - the Lollar and NOS capacitor so its tameable. Got some coiled leads at home too just in case. The feel and look of the ebony are just perfect :)

i've just plugged it into the rig. you can use a coily cable with it, but its not at all necessary. the tone control handles everything necessary. i must admit it could have been dodgy into a marshall master volume, but it works well - lots of power from the lollar to drive the front end too. pure joy to play a power chord, the seemingly infinite sustain blends into lush harmonic feedback. clapton surely knew it he was doing when he picked one of these.
