I don't like it into a dirty amp, but into a clean-ish amp with a nice basic tone, this thing is amazing. It sounds so amp like, and even behaves like an amp when you turn down. It can sound very heavy or more hot Marshall, depends on how you set the voice switch (and how you play/tune your guitar obviously).

Guthrie Govan was using one through a clean Custom Audio Amplifier at a clinic earlier this year.
He was using all the Suhr boost / OD / distortion pedals at one point or another.
They all sounded pretty good to me

This guy is phenomenal, he makes guitars, pickups, amps, pedals - and all of them rule!

I think it's more about the ear than the craftmanship. I mean he obviously has a lot of knowledge from the different fields - from wood selection to guitar building to pickup winding to sourcing materials for amps, constructing them, advising factories to build guitars in asia etc etc

Pretty impressive if you ask me.

I bought one about 1 month ago. Definitely the best distortion pedal I have ever had. Hard to believe the monster sound is coming from a pedal and not a cranked amp. As stated works best with a clean amp and is fairly responsive to guitar volume. On the clean channel of my Hellcat it sounds awesome.
(Lots of demo clips on Youtube if you wants to hear it)

John Suhr certainly makes some great gear.
