« on: August 22, 2010, 05:27:38 PM »

When I'm recruiting it's always the long CVs that put me off. Two sides is enough for me - as long as it's well presented!
I think I hate being indecisive.

yeah. i remember in school we used to get told to write EVERYTHING down, including a page about your interests.
It's just not needed I don't think.

the bad thing is i can't remember what training ive done in the last three years. i dont feel enthusiastic to pick up another job, or continue the one i have. gonna have a look around and see whats going

We recently had over 300 applications for a job. I must say, the shorter (and obviously relevant...) CVs were looked upon more favourably by the selection panel!

And whatever you do, tailor your CV and covering letter for the job to which you're applying. There's nothing more irritating to me when recruiting than a generic, bland CV and cover letter that shows no specific interest in this job vacancy.

The CV is an update for an agency that keeps it on their records.
So a covering letter is something I'd have to do as and when. I've not had much experience with applying and getting interviews. before uni i'd work for friends, and then afterwards I pretty much walked into one job, and then straight from there to another. Its comfortable where I am and everyone is great, but It's not as interesting as it used to be. so... i dunno. Im updating the CV on the off chance something pops up.

All ive had recently hassle to apply for jobs at Dolby.

I've been doing some admin for a recruitment company recently, amount of fluff on CVs I've read, it just gets ignored. Then you got daft layouts and cr@p spelling, anyone else think times new roman as a font is bloody awful?

Get your facts straight and let the reader find the information they want.

My CV is down to two pages, that should be enough for anyone.  I also try and only include job, experience and qualifications going back around ten years - anything more can be summarised elsewhere in the CV.  All anyone is interested in is relevant experience or qualifications - I don't even put GCSE results down any more, they're unimportant at this stage (35) bearing in mind I went ALL the way through the higher education system.

Cool whats your PhD in?

Mines 3 at the moment, but there could no doubt be some fat-trimming.

I got mine down to under 2 pages last time i was looking for work properly, then i had to apply for a permanent job created for me at the place i was working on short term contract, so i took the p!ss a bit and gave them a 1 page cv with my previous role listed as reconciliations special agent, and listed the guy interviewing me as a reference.

Literally in the mist of doing that myself when I came across this, currently trying to get a job teaching Music Production Analysis at the uni I used to go to.

2 pages should be enough, the majority of the things needed in a CV are mostly irrelevant to employers anyway, tarting mine up a little with colour and layout changes - just trying to making sure it's eye-catching but not overly pretentious.

Try searching for tips there's plenty of help online.
