songs for romantic situations
« on: August 26, 2010, 03:19:02 PM »
well, the idea for this thread relates to a situation I had last night when I was trying to be charming and weave a special kind of romantic moment. anyway, the problem was I was pretty pinted-up I have to say and lacking in my usual judgement and good taste, so I put on...

Black Sabbath - Snowblind

To which she said "thats Black Sabbath isn't it? Snowblind?". Which was a great bit of luck she was a Sabbath fan ;)

Anyway, what are peoples favourite tracks for making a romantic mood?

Either:

Napalm Death - Disempowered ("On your back: play dead, play dead, play... dead!")
or
Prodigy - Smack my bitch up

Or possibly just some good old fashioned Jaaaazz :)

Never mind music - poetry is where it's at.

A little Byron...

Oh! might I kiss those eyes of fire,
A million scarce would quench desire;
Still would I steep my lips in bliss,
And dwell an age on every kiss;
Nor then my soul should sated be,
Still would I kiss and cling to thee:
Nought should my kiss from thine dissever,
Still would we kiss and kiss for ever;
E’en though the numbers did exceed
The yellow harvest’s countless seed;
To part would be a vain endeavour:
Could I desist?—ah! never—never.

Makes me wet just reading it!

I wouldn't describe my mrs as being uncultured - I even took her to a Beethoven Piano recital for her birthday - but if I came out with that, I would thoroughly expect a toecap forcibly aimed to my genitals. :)

For me (not surprisingly) - and in agreement with Roo, it would be slower, more contemplative versions of the old Jazz standards I like to (re) arrange:

The Very Thought Of You, The Way You Look Tonight, Funny Valentine , All The Things You Are - e.t.c

If alowed to use CDs, then knock up a a compilation using  selected portions of Bruch's violin concerto, certain lush pieces by Gustav Mahler, Leos Janaceck, Chopin and  ballads by Gretchen Peters , Norah Jones, Michael McDonald , The Eagles , Tom Waits and ( later era ) Curtis Stigers.  :)

Al Green, Barry White, can't really go wrong. A bit of smooth jazz goes down well, I quite like this album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06LnrIKDVVA.

Put some A perfect circle or some I wanna make it with Chu from QOTSA. Or you may get your might flying Vee out and nail some romantic track or solo or whatever could charm the girl.  :P My gf fell in love with how my les paul sounded with nailbombs on, I could play anything it made her happy.  :lol:

On the classical side (and a little more seriously), Schubert's 'Trout' Quintet (which I played back in my school days: I am a violist) also does the job. As it happens, it's one of my favourite pieces of music, that.

John Martyn's Solid Air.

Fine, fine album - always worked for me...

Recommended conditions for it to work properly:
- Prior intoxication
- Low-lighting
- Comfortable seating that encourages horizontal positioning

It works on any girl, regardless of musical taste (rockers, hippies, classical-types, punk-ettes, ABBA-fans, I've known ole Solid Air to weave its magical spell on all of them :D).

It would probably work even better nowadays (on CD), you wouldn't have to get up to turn it over at the wrong moment...

(I am, of course, assuming that "trying to be charming and weave a special kind of romantic moment" means what I think it does :lol:)

finally some solid 24 carat advice. i just had a quick listen to some tracks from it on youtube, and I can see why you've had huge success with this in the past.

:lol: i'm sure that would have a powerful effect, maybe not the one intended though ;)
