Belated NPD & clip of a set of Cold Sweats in action
« on: August 28, 2010, 07:38:39 PM »
So I got my set of Cold Sweats a week ago and after some wait for new electronics I finally got around to doing  a cr@ppy. It's also my first proper clip with the Splawn Quick Rod I got some time so the tone might've been a bit better if I had more experience in dialing in a recording tone out of it. But at least in my opinion it's the best clip I've done so far so anyways...

On to the clip and pics folks!

I believe if you spent a little more time on this it would be absolutely killer.

However the tone as is is really good the only thing thats niggling me is that in places you can hear your second guitar track go slightly out. mainly on the chuggy rhythms.

what did you use to mic it?

Ah yeah, it is a bit sloppy here and there. Didn't want to spend too much time and go crazy trying to polish my playing so that it would be a 100% clean recording... I'm definitely no Jon Schaffer when it comes to tight rhythm tracking.

The recording set up was the following: Bacchus BLS-120 --> Splawn Quick Rod (OD2 & Gear 2) --> Marshall 1960B (w/ V30s & G12T-75s in X-pattern) --> edge of G12T-75 dust cap mic'd with Shure SM57. Artec Analog Delay used in front of the amp for the leads. The recoding is all bridge Cold Sweat except for the last lead which was the neck pickup.

needs a bit more presence, maybe a booster (for tightness purpose, not saturation)
you can try muting the strings "djent" style to get a more percussive tone (laying  your right hand over the bridge pickup instead of muting over the bridge)

that bacchus looks great  :D :D :D

Tone sounds like it's got a lot of potential. What speaker are you using there? It sounds like the mid/top end character of a G12T75.. This style is begging for a V30.

EDIT: Just seen you have listed the recording chain. Definitely try mic'ing up the V30 instead, the extra presence and upper mid punch that'll give you should do the trick for you.

Sounds killer! Really nice tone. I really want to try the combo of the 75's/V30's for my QR as well. Do you find that the Cold Sweats get along well with Quickrod? Sounds like they do in your clip!
