not sure it needs the scalloping, trem or the jack plate though..

so going by elimination, you want 3 singles on a flying v? i dig the idea!

yes, or maybe just two ;)

the control layout might be a problem, i like the functionality of strat positioning, but it looks a bit bizarre. would need to think about this.

A Tele V could be a nice way to solve the scheme. either that or have all 3 pups with a push pull or mini switch to add the middle pickup if you want it in the mix. that way you can also have all 3 pups in parallel as a bonus position

my initial ideas would be...
put all three pots in a straight line backwards, and mount a 5 way selector under them, parallel to the bottom edge of the V.

or do something similar, but have a master vol and master tone, and use a rotary switch disguised as a knob as the selector?

or same as above with a dual concentric pot to give you two tone controls, change the knobs to tele style metal knobs.

or mustang style pups and control!
i think the mustang layout would be pretty cool! 2 single coils and slide switches at the top?

Actually... usually I think it looks @rse when folks start putting strat pickups on other guitars... but I have to disagree with you chaps here

This looks pretty good to me, and I think I can see what Gwem's driving at.

I'd probably go with Dmoney's suggestion of a master volume and tone and a rotary selector. But I would kind of miss my 5-way or 3-way blade switch...

Very Blackmore!
I'd go with 2 pickups, as I've always found playing space a problem when trying to get 3 pups in a Gibson scale length.

Isn't that the Yngwie J Malmsteen signature?  I heard a story that this came about when Gibson approached Malmsteen & said "we'll build you ANYTHING" so the tubby one said "build me a strat" so instead of taking it as a refusal, they took him literally & built it.

To answer the original question, yes Gwem, you have gone too far, that thing is vile  (JMO, YMMV etc...)

The whole Yngwie thing isn't my cup o' tea.

I'd rather see a V with P90's and a Bigsby.

P90s do look cool in a V, but you have to be careful or they get quite dark. What may work is mini-humbuckers in a V. My WezV Firebird does sound very nice.

It is a YJM guitar indeed, he had a 60s V butchered (!!) for the strat setup.

I'm really into the strat sound at the moment, but naturally Vs do look the dogs bollocks.

I had the feeling strat pickups can look lame in other guitars, but they sound so good.

Thanks for the thoughts on control layout. I'm going to have a think to see if there a way that lameness can be avoided. I still think about the Ibanez Fireman which looks the dog bollocks as well, but is designed to look the dogs bollocks with strat pups.
