After showing up the thick end of an hour late in Dublin there, they left the stage when someone chucked bottles at the stage. There's no excuse for chucking stuff, I know, but I can't help think turning up on time and not showing the kind of contempt for the audience Axl continually shows would go a long way to preventing same.

They've been doing this to the fans for years. Yet people still go and see them and give them their money.
There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do and those who do not.

Yes, they will, but I wonder why?

GNR went cr@p around 1991 with those two double albums (awful, awful records - enough material to make one great rock record dragged out over 4 sides of utter drivel - talk about spreading yourself thin...).

When they were young & hungry (i.e. before Sweet Child o'Mine made them massive) they were a great rock band, but after that, just bloated, pompous & stuck up their own arses.  The good days are never coming back, I can't see why so few people are able to accept that...

You guys keep bashing about "them", but it would be more apropriate to speak about "him".

Lol Hunter I was just about to say the same.

Slash: Puts on a show, on time, every time. He is humble and loves playing to the smaller crowds, he's in it for the love of it.
Duff: pretty much the same as Slash.

Compare them to Axl.... well, we can all tell who SHOULD be wearing the GnR name still, and it's not that idiot. I would prefer to go see Slash or Duff any day. Axl can kiss my pimpled behind.

i saw them at the gig in Leeds fest 2002 - made us wait for bloody ages but either way the show was brilliant, whoever was playing the instruments. I think sometimes people (usually non musicians) overlook the ability all those guys have.

I was at that Leeds fest. and i watched them. I think Axl had a Rob from Nine Inch Nails and a few others ive forgotten in that line up. I might be wrong though.

It's not about ability for me. It's something else. Attitude maybe?

I don't want to see another guy in a wacky hat trying to fill Slash's shoes. It just seems awkward to me. Anyone with the money could go hire a band of really good session guys that have ability. I don't think the appeal of the real GNR is ability. I noticed at Reading this year, Axl had an autocue rolling at the front of stage. maybe that is needed... i dunno. It just seems less rock and more like bad cabaret.

It's seemed that way since the "User your illusion" tours.  Correction: it's been that way since then...

He's used telepromters/autocue since the Use Your Illusion tour (Ozzy uses them too)

What he really needs is an alarm clock

Seriously - being available to start your gig on time but waiting till you are over an hour late on stage to wind up the audience so the atmosphere is hostile and Axl can really feel "They're out to get me" is total BS.

Venues have curfews and audiences often have travel arrangements that need to be kept or they wont get home at all
Axl is a dick for ignoring that - people would enjoy the band just as much if he came on at the right time and played hard for the allotted time

& compounding that by walking off stage when the audience pelt you with bottles is even worse!

Axl seems to like provoking people but doesn't expect to be provoked back...

I'm not going to defend Axl's behaviour in any way, and Jonathan's absolutely right that Axl's totally responsible for creating the hostile atmosphere which he then bitches about.

But as for Slash being "the real Guns N' Roses", I can't agree.  He may put on a better live show and he's probably a thoroughly good egg.  But Chinese Democracy is brilliant (IMO), whereas everything Slash has recorded post GNR is just second-rate pub rock (IMO).  There's no doubt in my mind where the real talent lies.
