Pro Tools LE installation help

I bought this about two years ago but my Sony Vaio laptop wasn't up to the job, so it sat for a year till I got a new desktop PC.  And this its sat for another year, so that brings us up to date and me trying to get this working today.

I followed the installation CD instruntions and it finished; eventually.

Now when I try to start up Pro Tools, I get this message...

it seems to me that all you have to do is rename your hard drives as the names are too long

As has been mentioned above, rename your drives.

It'll only be a problem if you've got plugins that require an iLok for authorisation... still would probably be best to rename the drive to <11 characters, just to prevent any potential hassle in the future :)

here's a screen shot of my drives, so all I need to do is right-click and rename them?

yup thats all there is to it. doesnt really matter what you name them as long as its under 11 characters

cheers done that, got past the error.

got a high pitched whine behind the audio at all times, even when not playing anything.  this is just playing back the sample files.

anyone?

i have absolutely no idea on this one at all.

Does it dissapear if you mute all the tracks and playback?

Is there any sort of signal level appearing on any of the tracks? if so you've got open feedback loop between input and output - might be a built-in mic or something and your speakers.

Does it allow you to record even if the whining noise is still there?

I've been doing some recording and the high pitched whine isn't on the recordings, its most def what you suggest, but how to get rid is the key  :x

I'm quite liking the GUI, its not too dissimilar to Logic Audio when I used it around 6-8 years ago.  The plug-ins have come a LONG way though, I did a couple of tracks at room volume and with some playing around I've got my Tele sounding like it was played through a JCM800 at full pelt  :D

if you have an internal mic on the laptop disable it in the settings for audio devices in windows control panel that may help.

That should work, though I do believe if your using protools you need the digidesign hardware which would normally automatically takeover your inputs.

So, is the problem only there when the record enable is armed or the input monitoring is on?
