I'm with Philly and the others on this one. Keep the SG! But why would anyone want a RG???

I'd say keep the SG, but then I like SGs and have no interest at all in RGs.

Because they don't neck dive, their headstocks aren't liable to fall off, they have comfortable neck profiles, hold tuning well (even with a floyd), and the stock pickups aren't utterly terrible.

But of course, most of that can be fixed on any guitar.

And speaking personally, I wouldn't fancy standing up on stage with a bright lime green guitar of any description. Although I'd rather that than a pink jizzmaster, for example...

I'd absolutely keep the SG!
I think I hate being indecisive.

I don't usually like silver burst, but that SG looks stunning...

That fluorescent lime green thing, on the other hand... hmmm...  :|

Yep, personally, I'd keep the SG out of those two.

But, putting myself in your shoes, if there was a rare thing I'd been lusting over, and suddenly the opportunity arose... then I would be looking at options for obtaining it... and if the SG has served its purpose for you, why not?

Beware though - we see a lot of "I used to have X, I sold it on, wish I hadn't..." on the old interweb . I don't tend to view stuff like that myself, I rarely part with guitars anyway, but if I do I tend to make the decision with a "remember you're making the decision, no-one else" attitude. So far it's worked, even if I do miss something, there never seems to be any big feeling of "why-oh-why did I do that?"

Not helping my plans, but at the same time supporting my deep down feelings
Dont really want to get rid of the SG, but i've used it once in the last year, the only band i play in now requires a floyd
Im in an 80s metal band so the yellow is a positive aspect
also got SG stuff sorta covered with a jackson scott ian, which i dont use anyway

but also got an RG550 already from 91, but its boring old lazer blue

maybe i should just try and keep the SG and buy the RG outright

both are basically as new condition.and both are similar rarity i think, sg slightly more so than the RG

you could just get your current rg550 refinished it would probably work out cheaper all round.

Its just not the same, doesnt fulfill the GAS
also the neck on the newer model has a nicer finish on the back and better frets than my old one, and also 5 piece so will be sturdier
and i dont want to be a Desert Yellow phony, i think thats a hanging offence in desert countries

Yep, I think that's what I'd be trying to do... depending on funds, other half, storage-space, etc, etc

Sell the current RG and use it to find a new one?
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

I wouldn't trade, that SG has got to be rare in that colour - would love a silverburst LP as it happens.

I don't like the Ibanez at all, so I'm biased on this one.

I would keep this nice and great looking SG but when it's not your cup of tea anymore, would trade with extra cash coming in. Personally I left Ibbies a long time ago. I had a Jem 77 FP, but it didn't do much to me anymore as I changed musicstyle. I became a tele-freak. A tele with BG50's into a cranked Rockerverb 50 head is wicked.  Much more snap on the bass and lower mids than the Ibbie could provide. A lot more expression and character. But, the Tele has no whammybar. I don't miss it, some need it.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
