As I periodically do I was perusing the Make'n Music website looking at the Telemasters because I'm still hatching plans as to what my self build Mk II version might be and was after inspiration. Here's what the pages for the guitars now say:
THIS FENDER CUSTOM SHOP GUITAR is NOT A TELEMASTERᅡᆴ. TELEMASTERᅡᆴ is a registered trademark of Hobby Lobby International, Inc., 5614 Franklin Circle Pike, Brentwood, TN 37027. The body shape on THIS FENDER CUSTOM SHOP GUITAR is the same as a Fender Jazzmaster. The headstock, bridge, control plate, switch and knobs are all associated with the Fender Telecaster. While THIS FENDER CUSTOM SHOP GUITAR was designed to offer a hybrid of Jazzmaster and Telecaster features, it is in NO WAY to be referred to as a TELEMASTERᅡᆴ. As was previously stated in this description, TELEMASTERᅡᆴ is a registered trademark of Hobby Lobby International, Inc., 5614 Franklin Circle Pike, Brentwood, TN 37027. Not the Fender Custom Shop.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, REFER TO THIS FENDER CUSTOM SHOP GUITAR as a TELEMASTERᅡᆴ.
We are trying to be perfectly clear in order to avoid creating confusion in the marketplace.
The PageI had a look at Hobby Lobby and their Telemaster is a radio controlled plane. "Confusion in the marketplace" - really? One's a toy plane the other is a guitar, can you get
that confused by this? I assume someone has got over zealous with the lawyers here. It smacks of the twerp who owns Monster Cable and sues anyone who calls their brand Monster<name of thing> for example "Moster Mini Golf" who got sued a few years back. Silliness.
I'll be calling my guitar a Telemaster because it's a sensible name for what it is and, so far as I can tell, has no wings nor a remote control and I'll therefore be easily able to distinguish it from Hobby Lobby's fine product. The world's gone mad(der) I tells ya.
