Vintage hot in all mahagony?
« on: September 19, 2010, 04:21:44 AM »
I'm always looking to diversify the guitars I have by outfitting them with different sounding BKP's for moments when the mood strikes.

I've got a Schecter C-1 Classic sitting around not getting much love even with an immaculate set up and have decided I'd like to put in some Pups from the vintage hot line up.

So this brings me to two questions :

1.
How do you guys like a VHII in the bridge of an all mahogany guitar? I'd rather not do a VHII in the neck seeing as my PRS has a VHII in the neck already.

2.
What are some of the defining characteristics of the other vintage hot neck pups?

I would go with the VHII. It has a nice spank that complements well with the Mahogany warmth. It also depends on the guitar though, I've had both, very dark and very bright all mahogany guitars.

Yeah I get what you mean on that. My C-1 is a bit on the warmer side.

What are your opinions on the Black Dog neck? Or have you had enough experience with one to feel comfortable with sharing your opinion?

Thats kind of the neck pick up I'm eye balling.

I love the BD neck in my Epi Les Paul, but it isn't a very bright pickup. I'd go VHII bridge & neck.

The VHII-clips I heard are amazing. I would go for them, cause they will provide huge, beautifull cleans too and can roar if neccessary.

Oh I love the VHII. It's my favorite BKP neck out of the 3 I own. I was just thinkin maybe somethin a little different for a guitar with a bit of a low-mid gain emphasis.

Hows that Holydiver neck sound kevinr? Think it would sit well with a VHII bridge?

Yeah! I would think it would sit well with a VHII bridge, I have both sets in Eggle Berlins, and I agree with you as my favourite neck p/u is also VHII, however the HD does rate very well and is different (as you have asked for!) I can recommend the HD.
