Gotta agree with the SRV Little Wing
How about the worst? Anyone else have to suffer through 40 minutes of "Fripptronics" on the '04 G3 tour?

Nice one, Ben!  I was trying to think of something instrumental by Montrose/Gamma, but I couldn't find anything on YouTube.

For me I'd pick:

The Hermit - John Renbourn
Eruption - Eddie Van Halen
Little Wing - SRV
Scuttle Buttin' - SRV
The Rumble - Link Wray
D Natural Blues - Wes Montgomery
On Doing an Evil Deed Blues - John Fahey
Vaseline Machine Gun - Leo Kottke
Flying in a Blue Dream - Joe Satriani
Anji - Davey Graham
Orion - Metallica
Laguna Sunrise - Black Sabbath

and I'm done.

There's alot a good stuff here, that's a nice topic.

As for me, my-absolute-number-one is "callejon de la luna" from V. Amigo :

Still in classical guitar, my close second is "Un Limosna Por El Amor De Dios" from A. Barrios :

I also love SRV's little Wing !!!!!

There are two other -almost-"instrumental songs" I like very much :
Pink Floyd : "Shine on your crazy diamonds"
Dire straits : "Telegraph road"

...And some shredder's masterpieces :  :D

Marty Friedman : Tibet / Angel  :

Joe Satriani : Satch Boogie

I think probably my faves are both on SRV's Texas Flood - Testify and Rude Mood.

But there's also a Hendrix thing, it was from a BBC session, I think it's called "Going South" or something like that.

I was surprised Roo hasn't posted his favourite... but then I discovered that Philly's posted it already:

But I think my favourite instrumental is actually this.  Short and sweet.

Too bad he died too young, but Danny Gatton was an amazing guitarplayer. Fabulous technique en musicality.
