a humbucker kinda guy here..... do the BK sinlgle coils hum any less in the 1st and 5th positions (on a strat) than the stock fender PUPs do? the dreaded 60 cycle hum

Not really, no.
Tim is dead against hum cancelling methods, as they all affect the tone, so the BK singles are 'true' singles, inc hum.

I use IT's in my customstrat and they do hum on higher levels, but not much and certainly no more then Fender-pickups.

jimi hendrix's, ritchie blackmore's and many more had 'humming' pups.it really don't matter.most nasty noises
coming out of ALL pups are delivered through the fingers of the user!

kinda semi unrelated but suhr does have the silent single coil thing. I don't know if/how it affects tone tho
