I am Glad today is over

I haven't been so active of late on the forum as I have been grieving for the loss of my dear old Dad.We held the funeral today and I had to say my last goodbye to the greatest man who has ever lived ( well he isn't but he seems that way to me). He gave me so much in his quiet way- he never judged anyone, accepted people and had the heart of a lion but was kind and generous and many times I saw him help people when others would have looked the other way.He encouraged me in music and bought me my Fender Bass many years ago and I value it even more now.I heard today that he was very proud that I derived so much from my (modest) playing career. Now it is time I shall move with life live it the way he lived his.

My condolences. So sorry for your loss.

Typing things to someone you've never met over the internet seems so futile in the face of such a thing...cant think of damned thing worth saying thats doesnt sound like a platitude, condescension or a bloody hallmark card. Save maybe that he was obviously a good man, and I'm glad you've taken the best of what he had to show you with you. Theres a lesson in that for all of us.

Thanks everyone.It is something we all have to accept in life but you are right to say think of the good times, the fun and laughter and the fact that I had him as part of my life for so long( he was 18 when his Dad died).Thanks again to everyone- you might think that you are using just words but beleive me they are well received. En route to the chapel yesterday a couple of people stood and bowed their heads as we went past. Another lady crossed herself and other drivers were very courteous in allowing a long stream of slow cars to pass at junctions. That raised our spirits- the kindness of strangers. My Dad was a "kind stranger" many times in his life and those gestures made me realise that it is still there in the world and that there is hope for us all.
