New Amplifier time

My friends the time has come for me to purchase a new amplifier. I need lots of suggestions. I went into Zoo Music today and I played the TH30 (not up to my expectations) I was dissatisfied with the lack of tone control. I have a line 6 and an orange tiny terror. I need something that I can play heavy Jimi Hendrix Blues-Guns N Roses-Metallica. Marshall seems like the obvious choice but their stuff does not sound like it once did. Let me know what you think.

What's your budget? Marshall was my first thought although I haven't tried any of theirs out for a while. Perhaps trying to find a good second hand Marshall would do the trick.

My marshall TSL601 works incredibly well at bedroom levels (below talking levels) and these can be found for as little as £350 as mine was.

SOme of the Blackstar stuff might suit. The HT range is pretty good at capturing Marshally tones from classic to more gritty (Slash like) tones. Aided by the ISF control which works quite well. I was quite impressed and particularly considering how reasonably priced they are.

I'd say HT 20 or HT40? Loads of gain too (if you need it)

What about a Laney amp. Aren't they quite marshally in their sound?

What about fitting power scaling to one of your amps if it's possible. Might not be a cheap solution though.

The Blackstar HT-series are worth to look at. Not too expensive and lot of options. Orange Rocker 30 might be an option too.

I am willing to spend around 1500 usd. I tried some of the HT stuff and I didnt get on with it. I love Orange but I dont want to buy another orange it seems everyone else gets better tones out of there oranges than I do with mine.

I am thinking along the lines of something like Ceriatone or something custom. Obviously there is only so much you can get for that price range. Have any of you guys heard of Granger? Let me know what you think about the clips posted below. If anyone owns a Ceriatone let me know what you think about how Ceriatone compares to these clips below.

Tell me what you guys think about this brand I love the sound he gets out of the JCM800 but the Nitro seems to have a little more to it like foot controls. I dont know I need input

I think I'm the only person in the country not impressed with the Blackstar amps, I plugged into a HT40 and took an instant dislike.

Yes, with a budget of 1500 usd, take a look at the Orange Rockerverb 50. This amp will do the Hendrix stuff on both channels and Metallica on the drivechannel, depending on what guitar is used. This amp shines with the mastervolume at 12.00-13.00 o'clock.

i'd have thought if you're in the US you'd be better off looking at homegrown stuff. You can get boutique quality US-made stuff for $1500 (or thereabouts), or you can get mass-produced orange stuff. I know what I'd pick, anyway. :lol:

I haven't tried all of these, but for sort of hot-rodded marshall tones (or thereabouts), i'd be looking into soldano (probably the avenger for $1500), splawn, vht (deliverance? not really hot rod marshall but a nice amp), fargen (they might be more vintage marshall tones, or they might be way over budget), etc. There's probably something really obvious which I'm forgetting too.

I have a vague recollection of hearing about granger, and I think what I heard was good, but I'm not sure. Take a look at the gear page, harmony central etc. to see what they're saying there about them.

I saw a vid of the granger SLO style amp and inside it had THE SLO-clone PCB with a sticker conveniently placed over the 'not for commercial use' message etched into the PCB.
I'd be unsure as to what is boutique or unique about his range. some of it might be modded really well, or his own stuff, but when I look at his site, based on what I've seen, I have to question it a bit. which may be right or wrong of me. I dunno about his stuff in detail.

you could look out for a soldano hot rod +, a splawn is probably in your price range. I dunno what the Fortin Bones goes for now but you could find out.
