Pickup Suggestions for Fender Telecaster '72 Thinline

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, but not to BKP.  I have a BKP set in my Hagstrom Super Swede (Abraxas Neck & Emerald Bridge) and want to get some ideas for my semi-hollow humbucker tele.

What would you recommend for a semi-hollow from the vintage hot and modern bkp selection?

the stock pickups in those are a different size than a standard humbucker so youll have to a) get a new pickgaurd thats routed for standard hb's or b) youll have to get some of those wonky pickup mounting rings. i would like to think that mississippi queens would rule in there though.

Thanks Brian - yes, i'd read good things about MQ's on here.  I'll look into it, see if there are any sound clips etc.

Depends on the woods of the guitar, I think. If you want some twang maybe A Riff Raff-set is an option, especially with a mahagony body. MQ's would do too, but P90 has it's own sound/character.

If you really want 'buckers in the "vintage hot" ballpark, Crawlers might be a good fit. Else MQs on a thinline may be very yummy - at least that's a combo I'd really like to try myself !-)

I have a Crawler in my swampash MXG Customstrat, very balanced pickup and cleans up really well. Splitted with the IT's, real Fenderish sounds. Considering the maple neck a Crawler might fatten up the sound in your tele.

Have a Crawler set on my maple going-thru neck / maple body / rosewood fretboard Vox Custm 24 (cf my profile pic), and I can only second Telerocker : very balanced, and very versatile. I've still not rewired the split switches but I really should since everyone else says it splits up beatifully too.  The neck (AIV) gives you soft, warm vintage clear  cleans, well rounded with still enough highs to cut thru, the bridge (AV) is a bit more modern voiced, very sharp (in a good way) yet still warm and fat, jangly cleans (has a bit of a rick chimes on my Vox but I guess this also comes from the going-thru neck) and really rocking overdrive. The middle position has a very interesting character too, a bit quacky, and works wonder for bluesy crunch à la Beano.
