Miracle Man set highly recommended for alder superstrats
« on: October 08, 2010, 05:42:52 PM »
Just dropped a Miracle Man calibrated set of humbuckers into my Charvel So Cal (alder body/maple neck/board with Floyd bridge) per Tim's recommendation.

I am amazed at the versatility of this pickup. Does a nice heavy Zakk wylde with really tight bottom, pinches are effortless. Both bridge and neck clean up so well with volume, and the clean sound is not cold or dull like a typical ceramic pickup (the ones I've used anyway) The neck is perfect for fluid runs and clean, fast alt picking with high gain. For a high output pickup, it works very well for overdrive and clean stuff, with that same clarity and note definition I get from the VHII in the other Charvel, without as much upper mids.

Most amazing thing is my lead playing sounds cleaner and smoother than with any other pickup, thought a high output, high quality pickup like this would expose my mistakes/sloppy playing but actually makes me sound better technically and tone-wise. Being a calibrated set, they are perfectly matched to give me a huge range of tone in just one guitar. If I need something with more mids, just grab the VHII charvel.

I read a comment somewhere regarding the Miracle Man pickup saying that the pickup almost plays by itself. This is
a very good description. Thanks to Tim for creating a masterpiece!  :D

Tim recommended it for 80s rock/metal, especially due to the brighter maple board. Right on the money!

Miracle Man/Alder strat Update

Just swapped the neck on my Charvel superstrat with Miracle Man set from maple/maple to maple/ebony and sounds even better. Little snappier on the leads with the ebony board, and of course plays even faster. Thanks again, Tim!

Jonathan from Feline guitars showed me a superstrat he did with a Miracle Man - sounds very hair metal indeed. Its a good combo.

I have the miracle man in a Steinberger. I've always thought this pickup is more versatile than people say. The bridge cleans are weak, but everything else about it works well. For me it sounds like what I was hoping a Super Distortion would sound like.

When I enquired about a pickup for a Charvel, Tim or Ben recommended either the VHII or the MM.
I was planning to get a VHII set for that guitar, but your post has me doubting...

If you want decent cleans from the bridge and PAF-pedigree, I would pick VHII's. It's interesting how the MM performs in an alder strats. It gained the reputation of being a sort of onetrick-metalpony, but I understand from this thread it can do way more. Interesting.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
