Rebel Yells - Metal
« on: October 10, 2010, 01:17:04 AM »
so I've been listening to the clips of the rebel yells, and DAMN these pups sound good, but I'm worried they won't get me as heavy as I play - as well as rock/classic rock I play a lot of metal - Disturbed, Trivium, Lamb of God, Megadeth, Metallica etc
will the rebel yells get me my chugga chugga death tones as well as my awesome grinding rock tones?  :P

ive got a set of rebel yells in one of my PRS's that ive used for heavy music and they will definitely fill that niche you need.  plenty of power and clarity and sound great for metal.

there are other models better suited for those sounds and still versatile
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

The Rebels Yells should handel anything from classic rock to metal fine, but if you are a little worried about the output you could consider the Nailbomb set.

The Nailbomb has an harmonically rich tone with plenty of clarity and very versatile. The Nailbomb's DC is about 15.9k where the Rebel Yell DC is around 14.4k so the Nailbomb will handel metal a lot easier but still retain organic tone all through.

As mentioned check out Nollys RSF clips! Tim suggested I go for a RY/VH2 combo to cover DTP/SYL tones.

Hey , new guy here.

I have been using apair of rebel yells in my ebmm silhouette and i think they can indeed do metal. They do sizzle alright so if you're after super tight djent stuff there may be better alternatives

As for me I tried a NB and a RY in the same Gibson SG. The RY was tighter, more agressive-biting, more cutting-edgy.

I don't think you going to hear much outputdifference between the RY and the NB. You probably notice the enhanced upper frequencies in the RY.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Thanks to the chaps who mentioned my clips :)

In short, YES, the Rebel Yells will get you where you want to go. They sound truly monstrous through a metal rig - some of the clearest and punchiest tones you'll hear. It's normally a given that ceramic magnets are the way to go for tight bottom end, but Tim has worked his magic with the voicing of the RY so that you can get the super-tight attack you want but still reap the organic midrange and smooth top end character the alnico V mags are renowned for.

This has convinced me to try some in my SG!

Apart from Nolly's always-fantastic clips, if you want to hear what the Rebel Yell can do in a metal context, you can check out my band NEMECIDE on www.reverbnation.com/nemecide. Most tracks were recorded with a Rebel Yell in my 7-string tuned to B.
