It doesn't look quite as hideous in that video as it does in the picture but nevertheless I would suggest that Gibson stop giving LSD to their design department* . As for the on board stuff- makes it a gimmick guitar and technology dates things.

*( legal note: this is for the purposes of humour and any is in no way an allegation that Gibson distributes mind altering drugs to staff, design or otherwise. Gibson is known to be an entirely ethical employer with the wellbeing of employees being one of the cornerstones of its longevity and success- along with innovative guitar design)

Oh dear oh dear oh dear...

I try really hard, in all of my internet rambling, to abide by something my gran taught me, (probably back in the late 60s I'd guess...):

"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"

... so... wot the f**k I'm doing posting in this particular thread I really do not know

THIS has much more appeal...
http://www.espguitars.com/guitars_phoenix.html

It's very cool, but to be fair (to Gibson) that ESP guitar wouldn't exist without the original Gibson design.  Even the name is just a play on Firebird!

It is a very intelligent variation on the Firebird theme, though.  Gibson only seem to be able to come up with worse versions of their designs.

I wish ESP guitars didn't all have "Thin U" necks   :( .  They make some good stuff.

The thin U isn't as slim as Ibanez necks, I used to have a chart with the neck profiles ESP uses and it is 20mm at first fret (Ibanez Wizard are usually 17mm). The Ultra thin is 19mm or so. 1mm does make a big difference in feel though, I think the big Gibson bats are only 22 or 23mm actually. Doesn't sound like much, but makes a big difference in feel.

I too, feel the ESP necks could be a bit meatier though. At least they are nicely rounded in terms of radius.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

my EC1000 has an awesome neck, not too thin and not too differente from my gibson 60s

You know when someone dies, and they still burp and fart and their hair and toenails keep growing? The firebird X is basically that, but for Gibson.

Screw that. Moody rosewood from Madagascar is good stuff - better for guitars than coffins. Cardbord box buried under a tree for the green option. Chains & the North Sea for the non-green!

Anyway... The LP forums are going mental, unmoderated comments on the Gibson site are hilarious, and... well... oh dear.

I've said plenty about what I don't like about Gibson before.
I like the fact they let people leave such negative comments on their official website. Some are quite amusing

At first they tried to censor negative comments on their site but it was like fighting a tsunami and Gibson was overwhelmed by the tide.
