Sinner or Trilogy ?

hi guys..

I will keep it short.

I have always used dimarzio's on my strat, until yesterday I finally got the chance to try some BKP, the tone and cripsy sound had me from the first lick.

I currently play Funk and Hard Rock, so the middle pickup will always be a low output one, a maximum 7.5 k resistance to keep it clean. But I love to play lead solos and need something mid-hot but not tooo hot, the virtual vintage solo used to do it for me, they have around 220 of output. What would be the equivalent in BKP? Sinner or Trilogy?
I don't like too bright sounding pickups but when I read that the sinner has 21.6 k resistance it makes me wonder if it's too hot, I play a lot of technical stuff and it has to be well balanced and with good sustain

It sounds like the Trilogies would be the choice for you - fat and smooth tone that still sounds like a traditional single. The Sinners are excellent, but closer to a humbucker than a single in sound.

I have been listening to some clips and so far the Sinner for the bridge positions sounds closer to what I am looking for
Have you try them both ? is the output difference to wide between them or is one slightly hotter?

The difference is not massive in the middle and neck positions, the Sinners being rated at 15kΩ compared with the Trilogies at 12.5kΩ, but the bridge position is quite a wide difference (21.5kΩ vs 15.5kΩ), with the Sinner driving the amp noticeably harder.

I guess a good analogy to make would be that the Trilogies are close to P90s in sound, where the Sinners are closer to humbuckers.

Don't forget that you can always choose the zinc baseplate option on the Trilogy bridge to give it some extra power and bottom end - might be a good way of splitting the difference.

I had both the sinner and trilogy bridge in the same guitar and I thought sinner blew away the trilogy in every single way.  I thought the trilogy sounded nasally and I overall just didn't like its voicing.  The sinner had more grind, more bottom end, and just a much bigger sound.  But, the sinner still sounds nothing like BK's high output humbuckers that I've played.  Compared to my Miracle Man and Painkiller The Sinner is much thinner, less saturated, less compressed, less hot, but is tighter, clearer, and has more cut.  I think The Sinner works very well for thrash metal and has a great bite to it for soloing yet still has fluidity to it.

i have the same opinion, trilogies are closer to a traditional strat sound. if you go for a sinner in the bridge you get (slighty over wound) trilogies in the other positions anyway.

i don't find the sinner crazy hot, but it does sound like you'd prefer at least something a bit more stratty.

a full slowhand set might also be interesting for you

well guys, I went for the Slow Hands in the end and I was surprised the output esp in the Neck was just slightly hotter than the standard fender pup.
The Bridge, with a baseplate had a lot more punch and was almost perfect.

The tone in both of them is INSANE, amazing, fat, and with the clean channel it just sounds amazing, you can't go wrong

Unfortunately I need more output for my Metal taste and selling them both as the Sultans in the middle

Out of interest, have you tried rolling the tone knob back a touch when playing metal - you might be surprised how quickly they start to sound "humbucker-y" without becoming muddy.

Regardless, I think the Trilogies are the right set for what you've described, as per my original recommendation :)
