Engl Fireball 100

I don't mean to be rude to ENGL fans, but I really haven't found a tone in them that you can't get with a 5150/6505.

Personally, I'd say DON'T get an ENGL. A mate of mine had a Powerball and one of the Eblahblahblah pre-amps and they just did high end fizz and big low end. Not much else.

Fwiw: This is the outro of one of my songs. I recently rewrote it and decided I didnt like the sound as well, so I'm re-doing it, but its good enough to show you what a powerball can sound like, and this is the part of the track that will change the least, so I dont have a problem showing it. Extremely rough mix, due to abandoning it part way through, but there you go.

Its an aftermath into a powerball. V30, SM57, tiny bit of ITB eqing.

Hey, that's a very nice representation of what they sound like. Modified Soldano circuits and what not. V30s really are the thing for them. I always will love the G12T-75 the best, but the Vin30 really tames the undesirables(especially in a recording) and lets the amp walk around with it's balls hanging out. Nice tone, sir.

You guys are talking a lot about the Fireball 60 and powerball, but what about the fireball?  From what I have heard the Fireball 100 has been revoiced and overall is a huge improvement over the Fireball 60.  Do you guys agree?  Could the Fireball 100's high gain channel really compete with the Engl Savage 120?

I did hear the Fireball 100 once. I liked it more than the Powerball or SE - gutsier, meatier, less processed. Unfortunately I don't really know the Fireball 60 and it was once.
A friend of mine had a Blackmore. Can't say I really liked its tone by itself, but it did do a good job in a band context, and sometimes that is more important than anything else.

That said, I'm in general not a big fan of that processed, smooth and saturated ENGL tone. I, too, prefer the rawer nature of the 5150 or the british sound of Marshalls.
