damn, I think I'll keep my BL L500L in the bridge
and go with a BKP for the neck.

Something similar to a cross between SuperDist, '59, Jazz.

So many pickups ... lacking guitars and money :(

Mhmm... As a rule of thumb, I do believe that out of 2 pickups with the same wire gauge and magnets, the one with the highest DC resistance will have the highest output. Correct me if I'm wrong. DC resistance is a widely used measure that unfortunately does not mean much when comparing 2 pickups, or unless when given with more unformation.

What about the Emerald ?!

A question I'd like to see answered! :)  There seems a shortage of Emerald info, but it was recommended to me, so I've been trying to find out a bit more about it.  Lower output than the NB, it seems, but more low end perhaps? I'm pretty sure I remember Tim or someone saying that the intention was to voice it not so much as a hotter PAF-style, but after some customish thing that one of the Thin Lizzy guitarists used .... But that's all I remember off hand!

Emerald? For that guitar and style?
No.

I've played the Emerald, though briefly.
Wouldn't be my 1st choice for metal ... not even my 4th, probably.

I really think you're doing yourself a disservice by not putting a Miracle Man in the bridge of that guitar, but I can't force ya to do it.

Not meaning to hijack the thread but for a moment :) as you have played the Emerald (albeit breifly) and various other BKPs, what would you categorize the Emerald as suited for? :)

That said (or asked, anyway), from what I've heard, the MM does seem like the clear choice to resolve the question posed in this thread. The MM is like made of metal  8)

The Emerald is great for 'riff rock', a la old Thin Lizzy, Free, possibly old Fleetwood Mac, Zepplin, etc etc.
Driven hard, you could probably cop a great Black Crowes lead tone, as well.

DC resistance can be used as a guide for output, generally the higher the DC reading the more output you will have, but allways use it as a general guide as wire type, size and magnet are all big players when it comes to output levels.
