Need help choosing a pick up for my Suhr Modern
« on: November 18, 2010, 12:46:51 PM »
Hi

I have a Suhr Modern, mahogany body with maple top, mahogany neck and pau fero fretboard.
The guitar is now equiped with Suhr Aldrich pick ups, which is kind of bright.
I'm looking for something with more bass and less treble.

What would you recommend if I am looking for a thick and articulated heavily distorted tone?
Say, megadeth, guns n roses, inflames, etc

I am contemplating between the Warpig and the Aftermath.

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

If you're hoping to cop an authentic Guns 'n' Roses sound, you might want to avoid ceramic pickups. Personally I'd recommend a Nailbomb in the bridge - it's a gutsy sound, plenty of grinding midrange for the heavier stuff, but with its alnico magnet it has a nice open character that will give you the classic sounds you're after too.

How would NB's work in a basswood guitar?

'authentic' aside, I found the Miracle Man to be very very thick. My bassist hates me :D
