oh snow!!!
« on: November 24, 2010, 05:33:05 PM »
this week is getting worse...

(1) I've got a cough thats ripping my throat out
(2) It feels like I'm getting an ear infection
(3) The combi boiler broke on Sunday, so no hot water or central heating (we have a gas fire in the living room though, life saver)
(4) My guitar hasn't turned up in the mail
(4) Its started to snow

Can things get any worse?

Nooo, where are you? I really don't want to get caught in a snow storm on my way home tonight or my way in tomorrow! Have to leave at 6am as it is because of the stupid roadworks on the M25!!

Hope the cold clears up soon. :(

What guitar are you expecting?

Hoping it doesn't snow down here just yet (hertfordshire). My car can't handle the snow so I'd be stuck where ever my car is.

Really can't be arsed with snow this year. It's great when you have nothing to do, but now I've finished uni it's just an inconvenience! Not sure how my car's gonna handle it either.

Some f**ker hit my car when it snowed early this year (or late last year, can't remember). He/she left without leaving any details and a 5x5 inch dent next to the fuel cap, a chunk out of my front bumped and scratches along my wheel arches. Thanks stranger, I hope you had a year full of shite  8)

So basically Tom, don't move the car unless to get it out of the road.

At work we have had a memo around telling us that we are to get into work at all costs no matter how bad the snow is. Failure to do so means it taken out of holiday entitlement or pay docked. I have a 25 odd mile journey to and from work across country. Lat year I had a few hairy moments and one night it took me 3 hours to get home. Two colleagues wrote their cars off to get in. Our management certainly know know to inspire the workforce.

Employers do take the mick sometimes.

I was working at a warehouse (for just above minimum wage) and they wanted every one to get in no matter what, bearing in mind that the lorry drivers we needed to be there couldn't get to us because of the snow, so there was no work anyway. I was about 20 miles away and I couldn't get my car out of my girlfriends street. I didn't think it was worth walking that far for £6 an hour.

I'm near Newcastle and its snowed on/off since yesterday tea time, still snowing now.

The guitar I'm waiting for is a Jap-made 80s BC Rich Superstrat I got on the cheap.

I could really do without the snow because
1) It stops customers coming to see me
2) Whilst I have enough projects to do that I never need to be bored, it does risk me not taking any money to pay bills with
3) staff I employ may not be able to get into work
4) It makes heating the place harder and my electricity bill is appalling anyway - the long snowy period earlier this year added to the cost of living a lot
5) My girlfriend lives 70 miles away and I hate not getting to see each other

I'd honestly be happy with a nice steady 15 degrees centigrade all year round rather than a hot summer and freezing winter - perfect jeans and a t shirt weather and maybe a jacket at night

Our management certainly know know to inspire the workforce.

A couple of years back we got sent home early because of snow, and management told us the next day that the time we lost would be taken from our flexi time. Despite the fact we were told that we had to leave the building, no choice in the matter. That idea lasted about two days :D

Had a little bit of trouble getting in this morning, I live in a pretty rural area so its a lot of twisty turny roads. Plus this was the first time i've driven in snow, but seeing as I didn't end up in a hedge/field, I must have done ok!

Traction control was working overtime though.
Driving in my car, smoking my cigar, the only time i'm happys when i'm playing my guitar!

No significant snow in London just yet.  If it does get bad I don't mind using a day or two of holiday time.

I think I'd need a sunny 15-degree day to brave it with just a t-shirt!

On the whole I do like having seasons (though I hate the summer!!!).  But spring/autumn temperatures all year would be pretty good.

My work is pretty good about the whole snow issue, and with a 75 mile trip each way to Sutton, I'm glad of it!

The Oxford tube runs at all times it seems, so the shorter (distance) trip into central london for my main site is almost always accessible.

Although it takes me 2 1/2 hours to get in to work on a good day, and I've had some days where it's taken 4 hours each way because of tube strikes screwing up the roads in London :(
