MM in PRS Cu22?
« on: November 29, 2010, 04:05:21 AM »
Hey guys I have a couple of Cu22's and want to do a pickup swap to make them sound more different.  I have a MM set in an Agile I barely play so I was thinking of selling the MM set and getting a Rebel Yell set or some Godwoods, but now I am thinking of maybe just throwing the MM set in the PRS. What do you guys think about that? Would I lose a bunch of versatility? Also how would the 5 way rotary work with the MM set, do they split ok? Thanks.
Here is the guitar in question:
Painkiller , Holy Diver, Cold Sweat and Miracle Man Set

Just a quick one:

Would I lose a bunch of versatility?

MM doesn't do clean particularly well. What do you like about how the Agile sounds with them?

Also how would the 5 way rotary work with the MM set, do they split ok?

To get full PRS 5 way compatibility the magnets in the neck pickup need reversing (affects the split tones), but it still may work ok. :)

Nice 22, btw. ;)
A-Pig 7s, Miracle Man & Mule, Cold Sweats... Expensive kit and no talent posse.

I did like the MM set in my Agile quite a bit, but that guitar was tuned to C standard and used for melodic death metal. I tuned it up to E last night and played with it. Still like the MM set as they can really nail the 80's metal stuff as well as the more modern metal tones. However the cleans are definately lacking. That being said a buddy of mine has a Godwood set that I'm gonna swap the MM set for. I think they will suit the PRS better.

Abraxxas would fit this guitar really well, but for metal maybe a Holy Diver.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Personally I think the cleans (at least for the neck) are great with the MM; it has a very single-coilish vibe to it . The bridge MM is a bit meh for cleans, but much better (not surprisingly) if you set it quite low(though seeing as how you have an MM set, I guess this post is a tad redundant :D)
