Guitar pickup suggestions for an ibanez rg2550e
« on: December 02, 2010, 06:04:58 PM »
Ok guys, need a bit of help picking out some pickups.

Ive got an Ibanez RG2550e. Was looking for something to give me that sweet lead tone that satchel (steel panther) gets. Ive read somewhere on here that the holy diver bridge pickup would be good for that. Any views ?

Also, any suggestions for the middle (single coil) and neck (humbucker) ?

All help is greatly appreciated

Hi Joe, welcome to the forum!

Yep, a Holy Diver set would suit you very well. They have a particularly vocal lead tone, and make great partners with basswood superstrat-style guitars.

As for the middle position, that depends on how you like to use it. When I use HSH guitars, I like the middle pickup to be somewhat weaker so that the sound cleans up and gives you some sparkle in positions 2 & 4. If that's what you prefer then the Mother's Milks would be great in there. If you want a more powerful middle pickup, the Irish Tour or Slowhand would work well, the ITs being more aggressive and gritty sounding, while the Slowhands are really quite fat and smooth.

In that case, I think a pair of Holy Divers with a Mother's Milk in between will be absolutely great for what you're after, and will form a nicely coherent sounding set.

I think Nolly hits the nail on the head. The MM in the middle will enhance the versality of your guitar.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
