Pickups for 335???
« on: December 26, 2005, 03:54:07 AM »
I have a heritage H 535 which currently has Duncan Phat Cats in it, I want to put these pickups in my Epi Riviera as this has a bigsby for those neil young moments...

So what to I put in my H 535? (This is basically a 335) I was thinking of black dogs with coil splits, has anyone done this in a semi, what was it like?

What other BKP's have you guys tired in 335's or similar guitars?

I also have a set of nail bombs' in one SG which are the best pickups I have ever heard, and a set of riff raffs in another SG which are good but not as good as the nail bombs, if this is any help to anyone in making pickup suggestions.

Welcome. I have a set of Mississippi Queens in my hollow body (humbucker sized P90's). They sound great. If I'm not mistaken the SD Phat Cats are also humbucker sized P90's, devellopped for Hamer.

What sort of sound are you looking for?

The Phat Cats are Humbucker sized P90's like the MQ's and I love that tone,  if I go for regular humbuckers it will be a fat humbucker tone I'm looking for. I toyed with the idea of putting the riff raffs I have already in the H535, this would defo be the cheaper option but I thought they would be too bright but this may be the solution????

I could of coarse put the Phat Cats in the Epi and get a set of MQ's for the Heritage as P90's are my favorate pick up...

sure, take the riff raffs out of the SG and try them in the hollowbody, if you don't like them, you can always put them back in the SG.

I am putting a Riff Raff bridge and Stormy Monday neck into my 335.  I will be doing it when I get back to the States in January.  Hotter pickups will feedback more and overwhelm the tone of the semi-accoustic 335.  I am putting my Black Dogs into a Les Paul.
So many pickups, so little time

I've personally fitted MQs to a 135(yeah, I know :? )and the tone was amazing. If you like P90s you'll love Mississippi Queens and unlike the Phatcats, these really do sound like real P90s cos that's what's in them! :D

Right now I'm leaning more towards the Riff Raffs in the H535 (335) has anyone tried this are they too bright?

TIm, I really like the Phat Cats what's the main difference between them and the MQ's (other than the usual differences, scatter winding etc)? Do you have any detailed specs for them?

Anyone out there tried the Riff Raff in a 335 (or similar)? It's a real pain to change the pick ups in a 335 so I was just wondering if anyone had a sonic evaluation they would like to share....
