I just read about the new SE series from PRS. You can get them with a flame maple veneer top now. Looks pretty nice. I'm starting to GAS for a single cut in black cherry.

well it isn't going to have the same quality wood etc of a proper PRS, but for the money the SE's are good value. obviously they don't have the same sort of curve as a real PRS.

:o well i want one!!! I'd like the SE Custom Doublecut in cherry sunburst please. With some BKP Rebel Yells aswell - that'd be good. Anyone know how much they're gonna be selling for over here? I expect they'll be up in the £500-£600 range after a bit of research, since they seem to be going for about $500-$600 in the states.

I should imagine the nut width is the same as the US models (40mm) as thats the width of my SE

i feel really regretful that i didn't try an SE standard when i was in the music shoppe yesterday. doh. what was i thinking? with some decent pickups i dont see how there can be that much difference between a PRS made on a machine in the US and a PRS made on a machine in Korea.

quite a difference i should imagine. the SE's don't have the same hardware as the US models - locking tuners, graphite nut, bridge etc. also the quality of the wood won't be as good, and you don't get the carved top that the US models have (the SE's are curved but not in the same way). i'm not saying the SE's are a bad guitar but you'd be kidding yourself if you think they would be as good with a simple pickup change. the one thing I noticed with my SE is that it is really light compared with my 80's Aria.

This is the best about them: They have cr@p pickups, so there's no bad feelings when spending another 200 on BKPs

I really wanted to like the PRS SE series.  I fervently hoped it'd be like playing a real PRS but 4x cheaper.  It's not.  They aren't archtops and feel very... blocky and angular to me as a result.  I'm a Les Paul man and consequently am very used to archtops but I have a tele I play all the time that doesn't feel blocky at all.

The necks are freakin' huge on all the SE's I've played.  I have a '59 replica with a pretty big neck but it's nothing compared to the PRS SE necks.

The pickups aren't great, but as mentioned that just makes the guitar a classic candidate for the BKP treatment.  

These are my opinions after spending 15-20 minutes with a couple PRS SE's (not singlecut though) in my local music store.  Your mileage and tastes may vary.
