Aging/colouring a nickel cover
« on: December 10, 2010, 09:58:41 AM »
Just received my neck MQ in its new aged nickel cover and just by looking at photos I've sent, Tim has already got it quite close to how my Pig 90 looks. However the MQ is slightly darker and a bit more silvery as the Pig 90 seems to have a bit of a goldish tint in it now. Just wondering if there's any way to age the new one a bit to match this colour better?

Another quick question - are expensive paper/oil caps worth the money? Bearing in mind I never really use my tone controls so they'd just be on 10 pretty much all the time. Just a pair of those would cost £20, or I could get a pair of Orange Drops for £3.

regarding the cap question - no, the NiO caps sound the same as orange drops, especially on 10 (xD) and if you have high gain.  I have both and the only time I've heard a difference was when i was on clean.  And that was on one of the nicest amps I've ever played on.
I'm not good enough, technically, to be a classic musician. I lack discipline.
