Pickup depth
« on: December 15, 2010, 07:05:08 PM »
Has anyone measured or know the measurements of the BKP adjustment screw length? Thanks in advance.

I knew someone who measured one by gauging it beside a length of twine...

Sadly I forgot to ask him...

"How long is a piece of string?"

Sorry 'bout that but why don't you just measure one?

I don't have a BKP at the moment. My guitar "in working progress" is getting one without a doubt though. I just wanna get her vessel ready for after X-mas when funds return to normal.  Slap her in and melt faces the moment and it arrives.  :D

I'm sure Tim can send you the length you require if you specify it when you order..

Sorry but I couldn't resist taking the pi$$ a little earlier.  :P

Do you mean the mounting/height adjustment screws, or the pickup polepiece screws?

I meant the pole piece screws. Lot's of my past PUs have had them longer than the ears, so I figured that may give me an idea on routing depth. I am gonna e-mail Tim and see what he suggests. Dude is awesome about questions, but I feel I may asked him enough. Hate to take his time like that when I'm signed up here on the forum now. Thanks, guys. If anyone knows what's a good routing depth, please chime in.

And it's OK about the string joke, sir. Not easily offended. Had I been able to easily find out myself, I would have deserved it a little more.  :D

Wil you be mounting in a mounting ring or direct to body?
I think I've seen differing length pole screws - the ones on the aftermath I have here only just go through the plate whilst othervintage types have protruded lower I think

Just took a look at a VHII I have lying around....

Overall pickup height from top to (short) legs is about 21mm.  And your guess was right, the polepiece screws are a little bit longer than the pickup is tall - about 22mm.

Feline: I'm gonna go with rings on this one. Seems to be a safer thing for a first time neckthrough build and first time with wenge. Thank you very much for sharing that info in the PM I sent you. The joints came out really nice. You have to look at the end grain to see where the pieces come together. I'll get some pics up in my build thread in a day or two. I am not the owner of the nice camera, that would be my lady friend. I'm excited to share. :D

I'm teetering between the Miracle Man and the Aftermath for my bridge PU. Tim said Painkiller a few months back in response to a VERY detailed email. The Aftermath sounds to be an even better match than that, but the responses from you guys has been Miracle Man. So if you know the depth of the larger, that'd be great. Thanks again.

Tim sent me the dimensions in a pdf. 20.73mm height on humbuckers with the short leg. The tops of my frets are 6.35mm at the middle(from the body surface), so a 19mm route should be good with a little room for adjustment downwards.

So PhillyQ's got the measuring skills after all. Thanks guys.  :D
