Largest amp fest ever
« on: December 17, 2010, 06:56:50 AM »
For those of you who missed James Lugo's amp fest, it is well worth the 25 minutes or so watching:

Outstanding list of amps, great recording quality, awesome players.

Now someone go get me that 2W Bogner, and a Friedman modded Marshall!

probably my cr@ppy speakers but there didn't seem 'that' much difference between a lot of the amps. The uber sounded good, the splawn nitro and the marshall vintage modern stood out as a bit different.

The freidman models are very interesting and I would love to try one. It's a shame there wasn't a 20th anni xtc.

yeah, you gotta keep in mind they all run on one cab with the same mic'ing - that has a huge impact too and is kind of an equaliser. Still huge difference between them. The Wizard sounds sick, so does any of the amps Dave had his fingers in.

thanks for this link. spent ages listening to these.

even through good headphones there are alot of amps that sound the same.

The orange amps sound v good and the Ugly 18 clean was amazing. Also suprised how comparable the cheap 333 amps are to the others boutique ones.

I thought the jet city sound good too. I wonder how close the 100 is to the slo.

gizmo i thought the amps in a group (crunch) sounded pretty similar too, athough i take it with a pinch of salt
until hearing them for real. i actually liked the ugly amp cleanish tone v much. i've not got to the last parts yet
good post though.

probably a very similar circuit, maybe closer to the hot rod.
in terms of build quality and parts used, probably not very similar at all. The SLO has some components (transformers) unique to the SLO.
probably not bad though!

Very difficult to judge. Lot of amps sounds nice. Like the Orange's, Bogner Goldfinger, Mojado on low wattage, the modded Marshalls and I must say the Jet City did make a good impression.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
