I don't know how I did it (driving content)
« on: December 21, 2010, 10:58:53 PM »
I was driving to my fiance's tonight to wrap presents etc and all was pretty normal. Driving along the A414 and up ahead I see something fall from the car in front of me. At first I thought it was a plastic bag caught up in the car but as it got closer I noticed sparks flying and something very big bouncing along the ground.

It gets to within 12 foot of me and I realise, it's the exhaust box from the car in front.

The roads slushy, I've got cars behind me and there's a ditch on the left hand side of the road. Before I could even think the exhaust flies toward me (at this point I'm bracing myself to get hurt badly and swearing quite loudly) hits the front end of my car and bounces under then out behind me. The cars behind me narrowly avoiding it.

I'm shaking like a leaf and pull over at the nearest petrol station.

Some how I managed to go over the exhaust box causing no front or rear end damage and the only damage I could see was an exhaust bracket slightly bent out which I'm going to see about getting fixed in time for my MOT on thursday.

This is the first time I've hit something of considerable size and I'm surprised the exhaust didn't bounce into my window screen and some how not freak out and swerving off the road.

Damn you peugots!  :x but thanks Ford Focus

Crivens. Glad you're alright. I've only ever had one seriously worrying driving mishap, a blowout on a motorway, but jings, you don't half get a fright!

bloody hell.

That must have been terrifying for peugeot driver too, knowing that several dozen kilograms of steel have just gone bouncing down the motorway as a direct result of your poor choice of automobile.

I hope the driver realises he has no exhaust box now.

And thank $%&# you're OK.

On a lighter note (I think) I did sort of smile and giggle when you said you swore out loudly, etc. I couldn't help but imagine. But then the stuff afterwards, I'm glad you're OK.

I am glad you are ok. I had a similar thing once when following a lorry in a hire car I was taking back. A huge lump of rock encrusted in earth fell off the lorry and bounced in the road and by some fluke, launched itself over the car and landed behind. It was the size of a football. I had my young son with me at the time too.I was too shocked to stop the lorry driver who was oblivious.

Thanks guys. Turns out the car is fine. I will need to have a new exhaust bracket made in the new year as the old one broke off but the car is sound and should pass it's MOT tomorrow.

As if my experience wasn't scary enough, my future father in law was hit by a car this morning. Some girl wasn't paying attention and she drove at him, if it weren't for his quick thinking and wife shouting at him, things would of been very different tonight. He got away with just a small bruise to his leg and a bit of shock.

Blimey, your family is in the wars today. I am glad that your Father in Law isn't too bad. I hope he gets a good pay out though.
