Neck Pickup choice
« on: December 26, 2010, 09:31:23 PM »
Hey All - I'm new here and after a bit of advice. I've recently fallen out of love with the stock pickups in my Yamaha SG1000 (mainly due to a microphonic bridge pickup that squeals like a stuck pig at the merest suggestion of gain!) and am looking to replace them with some pickups from BKP. I'm almost 100% sure that I'll be going for an alnico Nailbomb in the bridge, but am a little confused as to what will suit best for the neck position - just for reference I play Hard Rock/Old School Metal and would ideally like something in the general tonal range of the Dimarzio PAF Pro.

Cheers

i was concerned about this when i got NB's for my les paul. I spoke to Tim on the phone and he told me not to worry. He said the nailbomb neck is made to compliment the bridge but not to be over the top. I was asking about teaming it up with something else like a Mississippi Queen or something more vintage. He suggested I stick with the set.

that said. you could have fun mixing things up.

I've always imagined that if I was ever lucky enough to own a Yamaha SG, I'd use at least one Abraxas in it.

Calibrated N-bomb-set would work fine, I think.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
