JHS Vintage guitars
« on: December 27, 2010, 01:26:47 PM »
I have just stumbled upon a discussion on this forum (dated last Feb') regarding the JHS Vintage Les Pauls and SGs. We all know they are the cheaper end of the market and can't expect great things but, I have always yearned for an SG Junior or the older model of the SG Special.  But, due to having a 17 year old son who now gigs and wants Gibson this and Orange that I don't have too much cash left to treat myself.  I know Tokai Japan make a nice version but I cannot justify parting with 500 pounds on a guitar when my gigging days are over. The qustion is, has anyone picked one of these JHS Vintage LP Jnrs up and tried them, I don't have a shop near me that stocks these guitars and I can't find any user reviews on them, they don't even feature on the JHS web page. I do agree with one comment that said the distressed look does tend to spoil them. If they had a standard finish it would look great because they do look quite authentic. A while ago I did pick up a  Vintage Lemondrop Les Paul and was rather disapointed with the general feel and finishing off of frets etc. I know costs have to be kept down to allow for the final bargain price but we all live in hope of finding a great guitar for little outlay. I have a couple of Classic Vibe Squiers (Strat and Tele) and for the money they are top quality both in build and feel.

I'd better look at an (used) Indie SG. Workmanship is better then JHS.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
