SO this is what my crazy posting has been about...
On my last night shift i was looking at these again, and decided that I'd stop off in liverpool on my way up north to see what i could find... I found a fender blacktop strat in that pale blue colour I've forgotten the name of. I didn't much like the look of it and decided to keep on moving.
I got back to my old village, which has one guitar shop that has a weird range stuff. lots of budget stuff and a couple of rick's and prs'. However... they had a couple of Charvels. Up close I liked the look of the San Dimas 1 over the So Cal. So i decided to have a go.
The action felt a bit high, and it was totally out of tune so i struggled getting it set, due to my unfamiliarity with the floyd. I was told it had never been played. it isn't back routed so it won't pull up that far. The neck pickup was low output but that has been fixed. probably a bad joint.
I used to think I'd not suit a strat at all. I guess this is no classic strat, but I actually sat down to have a go on this and ended up really really liking it! I have some plans for the kind of tone this should be capable of. This is the first non les paul or sg type guitar I've had since i first started learning to play. It feels very weird, and kind of liberating. This is now my 'go to' guitar for traveling to practices and so on, when a les paul is just that little bit to heavy, and the 333 is that bit too bulky.
I'm very surprised with myself, and quite happy. Going for Nailbombs in this, and I'm going to play around with it more before I decide on what to do with the floyd in terms of stabilizing.
