« on: December 28, 2005, 10:51:03 PM »
ive been getting told alot about schecter guitars on a forum on another forum ( www.ultimate-guitar.com ). im wondering if anyone thinks much about them? anyone had any experience with any schecter guitars?

i was looking at a schecter Omen 6, because it seems to be in my price range... if this isnt an ideal second guitar then please tell me= http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--SCEOMEN6

if anyone has any better suggestions for a good guitar to get? i play mostly heavy/thrash metal
price range is up to about £450

hey, another UG-er!

if you have £450, you can get better than a schecter omen 6, should it even be a better schecter.

what exact type of tones/music style do you want? do you want a floyd rose trem? do you want to hold back some cash for new pickups? what amp do you have?

into heavy/thrash metal mostly, i admire the tone in most ozzy osbourne songs, so if i were to buy pu's most likely they would be a miracle man set. i am not in need of a trem really, so ive been looking at LPs and lots of copies of them, trying to save money for pu's and all

Indie seem to make good cheap-ish LP copies..

I know alot of people on here seem to rag on Schecters but I've always come away from playing them thinking they were really nice guitars.

Get one of the models with the cheaper 'duncan designed' pickups rather than pay extra for the ones with 'real' duncans - you will want to change them out for BKPs anyway.

You could keep your eye out for used ones on ebay.  Or, if you're looking to buy in the next month, you could do some serious haggling since Jan/Feb is a slow month for guitar shops. Go in with cash and be cheeky about the price - do your research on the price and be willing to walk if they won't play ball.

For the cash you have (£400-500) you could even get a (used) Gibson SG.

i'd go for an SG faded special in a flash. YUM.
Nah there's actually quite a lot of people on here that have said some positive things about schecters; they seem to be quite good value for money

I don't really like most modern Schecters. They don't fit the type of music I play, but they did play well. My friend was trying one in Sound Control so I had a little go (C1-FR I think it was). I prefer older Schecters (i.e. the Strat and Tele copies they used to make, and that Mark Knopfler uses)

their "elite" range is pretty nice i think it's around your price range. But having said that i don't have huge experience with any other similar guitars in that price range. They have push/pull coil taps and nice binding and stuff. Not a bad sound either. I think theres sumthing called a c1-elite. Look for them on the web or something.

I use a Schecter 007 Elite axe,and this is the best mass produced instrument I've ever played. The whole guitar resonates, from head to bottom and has a really huge tone.I played mostly FR-equipped axes, and this tune-o-matic baby owns them all.Much better sustain and a really thick sound.

The instrument is built nicely (produced in Korea, but set up in the USA) and plays perfectly. The body is made of mahogany with a nice flame maple top in cherry sunburst finish. The neck is mahogany too with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard.Tuners are of Grover fame and the tailpiece is a Tone-Pros bridge. The only weakness I figured out is the H-S pickup set, which reduces the variety of sounds a bit.I plan to throw out the factory equipped Duncan Designeds and replace them with Nailbomb and Trilogy Suite 7 string pickups.

I can just recommend Schecter guitars, because they are of high quality instruments!

Well I reckon that if you can spend up to 450 quid you could get an epiphone sg or lp and change its pickups . I read a few reviews on U-G and they seem to be very refined and high quality for their price

^a lot of the reviews on UG are by idiots, to be fair.

A lot of the epis are made of some alder/mahogany type stuff- I don't know if it sounds good or bad, but it sure as hell isn't what the genuine gibbos are made from.

I'd get a guitar with a similar spec to a gibbo, rather than one that looks the same, but has sub-standard wood in it (and i'm fully aware that the wood in £450 guitars won't be as good as a £1300 Gibbo, but a lot of £400 guitars don't have as shabby wood as the epis- going by spec at least).

^Well I've got an ibanez gsa 60 , it is pretty much one of their cheapest models but I really like it and I've heard that they use very similar necks and bodys (wood )  throughout all their range . Is that true ?

If you want a Schecter don't go for a basswood one, those just sound like cr@p. Instead get a mahogany one, set neck, throw the DD pickups away and get some good pickups (BKP? ^_^) and you'll get one of the best metal guitar ever.
I tried many Schecter in stores and they all sound good beside the cheap ones :) I WANT A C-1EX WITH BKPs
