Pickups for Walnut Bodied FR equipped guitar??
« on: January 01, 2011, 07:53:54 PM »
Hey guys and girls.  New to the forum.  I have a Carvin DC400 (neck through).  It has a Koa top and the neck and body is pure walnut.  It also has an Ebony Fretboard and is equipped with an Original Floyd Rose.  I love the tone of the guitar unplugged but the pickups sound terrible to me.  Unplugged the guitar sounds snappy and bright with a really tight but not overpowering bottom end.  I want pickups to compliment the natural sweetness of the guitars sound and give me an aggressive midrange for soloing as well as tighten up the bottom.  right now the pickups make the treble sound shrill with a muddy bottom end.  The help line suggested the new Rebel Yell humbucker.  I really like the VHII sound clips too.  Any thoughts or reccomendations?
Thank you
Jason

Welcome to the forum Jason!

The Rebel Yell sounds like it would definitely be a good choice based on the info you've given. The VHII neck pairs very nicely with the RY bridge, offering a smooth but very defined tone that works equally well clean and distorted. A combination of the those two would give you a very well-balanced and versatile pickup set.

Thank you very much.  My main concerns are that the RY cleans up nice when turned down and if it has good harmonics as well as a nice clean sustaining tone.  Seems to me that BKP are the real deal.  Great service as well.  Now i'm wondering which color would look nice with my flamed koa top!

I would say so yes - the RY has a nice open-ness that rolls back to give a detailed clean with just enough compression to retain a touch-sensitive feel and excellent sustain. The harmonic structure is wicked, with some gain on top it really wails and transitions nicely into harmonic feedback.

Pink.

RY's are really fantastic pickups.
