Sore finger and acapello metallica
« on: January 03, 2011, 02:48:02 PM »
I played a 90 minute show at the weekend, and 3/4 of the way through developed a sharp pain from the tip of my middle finger which shoots most of the way to the closest knuckle when i fret a string. its not excruciating, but very off putting.
has anyone else had this problem and if so please give recommendation as to any "exercises" i might be able to do to get back to working order asap?
I think iv had it before a few years ago, and obviously i need to rest it as much as possible. Just wondered whether this is a common occurence in guitarists and if it has been given any kind of name. i tried playing the keyboard today and can still feel it, the gig was on saturday.

on a lighter note iv just discovered Van Canto:

Why are you asking a bunch of guitar players? If you're worried go see your doctor.
There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do and those who do not.

i had this a few years ago.

Is the bottom of your finger swollen?

if so you have pulled it and theres fluid build up.

All you need to do is give it a rest for a week or so and make sure you DONT sleep on it.

theres no swelling/redness so im not overly concerned, its something that "feels" like it will go away in a few days, it just feels inconvenient. The pain is more located from the tip of the finger to the area under the nail i guess.
iv never had an "injury" from the guitar before, just curious is all.

that's exactly how my tendonitis started, my advice would be to stop playing NOW and go see a DR! if you continue to play it makes it a lot worse and mine took a year to heal from thinking it was nothing, you need to be a lot more carefull, you can be fine now and then in just a few weeks unable to play, if you wan't to keep playing you'd best see someone...
