PR Guitars
« on: January 04, 2011, 04:33:26 AM »
I just got wind of a guitar manufacturer in england that makes these guitars (paduak wood with a 25" scale which sounds perfect to me) anyone here with experience of them? I think twinfan played one in a recent youtube vid with the AFD (hope that the issue you're having with it works out, it sounded great on the vid) any opinions? I'm looking at the SCR model

It's the SCR that Dave's got isn't it?

Dave has the Les Paul and SG inspired models.
I've had my greasy mitts on both and they are both very good guitars and are well made.
There are some reviews in Guitarist or Guitar Buyer I think. I think they were published about 18 months - 2 years ago.

Yep, I've got two - SGR #1 and SCR #1.  My SCR (singlecut) was in Guitarist magazine and my SGR was in Guitar Buyer, both in the last year or so.

Here's the SCR post:  http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=20602

The looks divide opinion, but everyone who's played them is very impressed.  Build quality is perfect and I looked very hard to find a fault - there wasn't one.  I don't think Paul has sold too many SCRs as he's not the greatest at promoting himself, which is a criminal shame.

His guitars rock a fat one, and if I was a pro musician I'd have a stable of his stuff as my working guitars.  They're that good.

That sounds like a number of the luthiers I know.
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Thanks very much, I've sent Paul an e-mail so I'll wait for a reply before I go any further with it but it looks very promising

Just heard back from Paul, he said he can put an SCR together for £1000! Top quality guitar for a very good price, he reckons that will also include postage to Ireland! Feeling good about it so far  :D

Well, I didn't get to Paul's until today and spent a good hour or so talking shop and playing his guitars - MAAAAAN, they are really nice.  I gotta get saving me pennies.

For those who're not too sold on his headstock or body design, he did mention that he was thinking of maybe doing some straight 'reissue' type guitars built the right way - i.e. to the standard that Gibson will never attain.

I'd be up for an SG of his, hell yeah - the necks on his guitars play like buttah and the resonance rings through the guitar.  As you can tell, I'm a bit taken with them.

Oh, and I told him to drop by the forum and contact Tim about putting some BKPs in his guitars - you do what you can.

See?  I've been telling people how good his stuff is!  I picked my SCR up and just went "whoa!"

He's seriously underpriced...

same reaction here - his guitars just instantly feel 'right'.

I also played one of his guitars that had a late-60s-style SG neck, i.e. thin width, and it was really, really nice.  Was like playing my '67 SG junior all over again.

I'm embarrassed that someone THIS good has been on my doorstep all these years and this is the first time I've played his guitars.

Hopefully he will rescue my BC Rich from the mess the other guy made of it and get it playable.  Then I can get saving for one of his guitars   :D
