Hi there

Browsing the new site (congrats to the team BTW), I notice the 'new' BFG50s set specs don't match my 'old' own set. I had so far understood the 'old' BGF50s set was equivalent to the 'new' BGF50s bridge + BG52 neck, but my BGF50s bridge reads about 7kohms - just like the BF52 bridge -, while the 'new' BFG50s is now about 10kohms... I'm I wrong or is the lovely BFG50s set we all love now the BG52 ? Or what ???

I have to say I feel a bit mixed about this - not that I doubt the quality of the new sets, but given how strongly we ('old' BFG50s set) did recommand this set to everyone, it would be fair to warn that it's not the same set anymore...

I noticed that too. Way hotter then the old BG50-bridge. Maybe Nolly can explain this.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I don't know anything about the older incarnations, but I do know that the BG series as it stands are completely vintage-accurate. I'm guessing any changes were made to bring them in line with the specs of the pickups from their respective eras.

Maybe the numbers were mismatched by accident?

AFAIK the original 7K BG50 was modelled after an actual 1950 Tele pickup.

But on the other hand, 50's pickups varied alot in output.

When I originally introduced the Blackguard Series I simply made two sets - one to cover the early 1950s based on own of my best friends original '52 Tele and the other on a 1955 Tele set.
As the two sets became well established I got more and more requests for Broadcaster sets and later '60s spec sets so decided to expand the range to 4 sets.
What was the Flat 50 set has become the '52 set - logical as it is modeled exactly on a very specific '52 Tele - the wind and spec is exactly the same as the earlier Flat 50 other than I now fit a copper baseplate to be period correct to '52.
The new Flat 50 is based on the hotter Broadcaster/Nocaster era, the '55 Stagger set remains unchanged and then the new '68 set is based on CBS era coils.
I did detail all these changes in the October Newsletter. If anyone is not already getting our newsletters and would like to receive them, subscribe here.

Must have been a fine sounding '52! One of my favourite BKPs  :)

Hi Tim and first thanks for the clarifications 8)

When I originally introduced the Blackguard Series I simply made two sets - one to cover the early 1950s based on own of my best friends original '52 Tele and the other on a 1955 Tele set.
As the two sets became well established I got more and more requests for Broadcaster sets and later '60s spec sets so decided to expand the range to 4 sets.

Ok, so now we know ;)

If I may: given the strong recommandations on this forum (and quite a few others) for "the set that used be known as BGF50s and is now known as BG'52" ("knights who says Ni" anyone ?), I think it would be fair to add a note about this on the products pages. Just my 2 cents...

The new Flat 50 is based on the hotter Broadcaster/Nocaster era, the '55 Stagger set remains unchanged and then the new '68 set is based on CBS era coils.
I did detail all these changes in the October Newsletter.

And we've been wondering about the exact changes eveer since that newsletter:

Ok, I admit I can be a bit dumb sometimes, but it looks like I was not the only one wondering what _exactly_ happened

But anyway - thanks again for the clarification, and for the yummy pickups and great tones  8)

(and there are definitly way too many smileys in this post, sorry)

Older Flat 50 bridge was wound also with 42 gauge wire ?

the '55 Stagger set remains unchanged

Didnt the older 55 stagger set had the 42 gauge wire neck pickup ?

For me and maybe others too, the old flat 50 (7K, zinc base plate) is the perfect Tele pickup. Maybe it could still be offered as a custom order or something?

No need - it is the Flat 52 - as I said before, it is exactly the same spec.
The bridge has always been wound with 42  PE and the neck also with 42 PE.

I was also confused but I guess that explains it.

One day I went to bed with a flat '50 and woke up with a flat '52.  That's 2 years I'll never get back :?
