Hello All....just want to start by saying hello! I have visited many times and have used the great info I have learned to acquire VHII's, Nailbombs, PK's, Warpigs, MM's over the past few years. I have a tone idea this time that I would like to get close to. Tone has a ton of factors and pickups are just one piece of the puzzle...with that being said I'm looking to get my Les Paul Historic Reissue to get a tone close to Greg Martin of Rufus Huff or The Kentucky Headhunters....now I understand that big factors inculde the fact that he's playing a vintage 50W Marshall cranked, has a real '58 'Burst with original PAF's, and he's an outstanding blues rock player....pickups alone I know cannot replicate all of those factors.... but that Les Paul tone that he generates to me is the BEST Les Paul/Marshall tone that I have ever heard IMO. I have an excellent '59 Reissue and the pickups in there right now are Wolfetone's...the bridge is a Marshallhead Bridge (about 9K, Alnico V) and the neck is a Legend (8K, A2 Mag). They are great....but I guess I want something more vocal, woody, and classic. I think the obvious answer is a set of Mules....and I've long wanted a set....but I figured I'd ask you all here. Please feel free to tell me what you think. I have this same question going to the main man Tim. Anyway, could you check out the video of Greg Martin playing with Rufus Huff on youtube. The song you should check out for the tone I'm talking about is Shirley's... hits it right on the head...or John The Revelator (I can link it up later...). Those videos are a little bit on the low quality side...but that tone is there. Rufus Huff also have a self titled record out also on ITunes...you can hear the CD quality audio on the free samples on there too. Thanks everyone for taking the time to chime in!!!
